So our question for you is: Do you have these candies or something similar where you live, and have you ever tried these candies?

Like those little chocolate UFOs filled with joghurt? Legend has it that the quality of the chocolate was so bad that they weren´t allowed to sell them any more in some places.

You can buy most of them in some german stores. But like Mars and Bounty, they taste different in the USA. Most of these candys are adjusted for the german market (taste). You have to buy them in US stores in germany for the original taste

In Germany, you can buy KIT KAT choclatebars with peanutbutter in it. I like the mix of sweet and salty! I think I've seen this sour spray here in Germany. And I know, we have somthing similar to the green, sour bubblegumball, it's called CENTER SHOCK. It is very, very sour, too!

Starburst! You have to make him try Starburst. As a German married to an American I am so sad that I missed out on these treats for 8 yrs. I tried them first for Xmas, the tropical blend and favorite reds. The German equivalent would be maoam or Mamba but Starburst is so much more intense in flavor. I killed two bags on a 7 hr car trip.

- Pixie Sticks: We had them in Germany in the early - mid 90s... I miss them SO MUCH. And I totally forgot about them until I saw this. Now I am sad ;_; - Poprocks: Widely available in Germany as "Astro Gum with Poprocks" but the American version might be without gum rocks, which I would prefer I think. - Reeses Pieces: I love them! They are available in my local REWE, but I believe they import them from the US. Which is a damn shame, because they are super expensive that way. - Super sour spay: We had something like that in the late 90s or early 2000nds. They are gone now. But I used them so much my mouth started to bleed. Maybe their disappearance from the store shelves was related?

Sure, you can add all kinds of flavors to cotton candy but the only thing all cotton candies have in common is the stringy sugar. So "cotton candy flavor" can only mean sugar flavor.
@Papperlapappmaul
@Papperlapappmaul 7 жыл бұрын
Well, I haven't had cotton candy for years but if my memory serves me right, plain white cotton candy is the most common in Germany. That's probably why I don't associate any particular flavor with it. The same would also apply to bubble gum flavor but with that I do associate a particular flavor, even though there's quite a broad spectrum of flavors for bubble gum, most of which taste nothing like the flavor described as "bubble gum flavor". Hm, someone should write a paper on this topic...
@Melissa-wx4lu
@Melissa-wx4lu 7 жыл бұрын
Ah I see, In America, I've never seen white cotton candy before. It's always Pink vanilla or Blue raspberry. There are other flavors and colors as well but they are not as popular as the classics. (And they are hard to find outside of prepackaged cotton candy sold in the stores....which are horrible) I would always stand by the cotton candy stall at the fair as a child (I was just tall enough to see inside) and watch them spin cotton candy. I found it fascinating to watch. I am curious now about these flavor profiles of things we would think taste the same the world around. To me, Double Bubble, Bazooka, and Hubba Bubba is the classic bubblegum flavor for us. I wonder if their flavoring is different in other countries?

Tootsie Rolls are like a chocolate fudge. They were invented before refrigerated transport was widely available. They were not able to ship Hershey bars or other chocolate from May to September because they would melt. Tootsie Rolls did not melt in the summer and were available when chocolate bars were not for sale.

Cotton Candy is such an US type of flavour.

I have a hard time understanding what flavor cotton candy actually is as its main and only real constituent is sugar. Is the sugar caramelized slightly during the process and that is supposed to give it a unique taste?
@auandy11
@auandy11 7 жыл бұрын
M. Utley Its flavored sugar. But their is a classic cotton candy flavor that universally known as the cotton candy flavor even though their is 100s of ways cotton candy can taste.

No one to explain the flavor, its unlike anything you have tasted. You would have to taste it.

Rubus leucodermis (the fruit is blue/black, kinda like a blackberry, still, it's named raspberry). I might add: blackberry and raspberry are both from the rubus genus and thus quite similiar anyway.

Most of these sour candies came out around my high school time to date myself. But hey, it's interesting to know a whole generation grew up on them. Hadn't thought of that!

Reese's should be peeled and deconstructed with your teeth, slowly. All chocolate and then a solid hit of peanut butter. And then do the other half. You missed two things. Butterfingers and frozen Charleston Chew shattered into pieces. Three. Lemonheads.

Carol Gage Oh, totally - I feel like a lot of people essentially use it just for decorative purposes, too... Putting it out in a display, fully aware that few (if any) people will eat it.
