I heard this a lot now from other people. Germans stare. One thing that is never considered is, that sometimes you just happen to be in somebodies eyesight. So when somebody complains about us Germans staring on public transport, I think to myself: Sure, genius. The seats are arranged facing each other. Also, public transport is crowded, so we will have to look at somebody no matter where we look to. So maybe we stare, but we have not specifically chosen you to stare at. What should we do? Neurotically staring at our shoes for a whole train ride to make sure to not meet anybody's eyes?

Mexican time here (Avocado time). If you're invited to dinner at a friend's house at 6, they know you won't show up at 6, and you know they won't even be ready by 6. It's a mutual understanding, you should be there about 6:30

Low German is actually closer to English than to German since it’s also more or less the language the people spoke who went to the British isles after the romans left

😊. Very intresting and she did a good job. Some articulation tips: - <ie> does not make a long <ii> sound as in German, but the diphthong <iä> (actualy <iə>). Similar to <ye> in <yes> - <ue> is not the umlaut <ü> but the diphthong <uä>/<uə>. Accordingly <üe> is <üä>/<uə>. Muesli is a Swiss German word, <Müesli> literally meaning <small mush>. <Müsli> on the othe hand means <small mouse> - The word stress is always on the 1st silable, <mítenand> not <miténand>, <Máttjas> instead of <Matí'as> - In German, words starting in a vowel are initiated with a glotal stop, <zis 'is part 'of ze 'usual German 'accent>. In Swiss German <disís not decáseátáll> making it way more difficult to distinguish word borders but giving it a 'singy' quality - In most dialects, all <r>s are fully aticulated in a trilled fashion, similar to Spanish <r>

Gern geschehen. Dana, let's sort this out. There is the domestic pig. The male animal is called "Keiler", the female part is the "Bache". The little ones are called "Frischlinge". You´re welcome.

Depends on where you buy your apples, but I can tell you at organic grocery stores or like whole foods. They do not have that waxy coating anymore. Thank God. But everything else you've said about flavor and color is true!

What about if it's something that doesn't exist?... Like in a children's book. Classic German children's book blue bear....imagine a blue cartoon bear. It also applies to fantastical things?

we can just imagine how much CO2 could have been captured if all those trees would not have been harvested. And yet, we keep felling forests and pretending we can fix everything with renewables, which include trees as an energy source, called biomass. It just gets dumber and dumber.

I’m an American and I don’t mind discussing politics or being asked who I voted for. But I do cringe when asked financial questions by anyone. When I got a promotion at work one of my friends asked me “so how much are you going to be making now?” NOYB. Back in college I got a new car and a classmate asked “ how much did your new set of wheels cost. Cringe. A guy I dated asked me how much money I had in the bank-never went out with him again.

Most people don't realize that Europe is much further north then the US which puts it at similar latitudes as the northern US and Canada. On the other hand, the southern US are at a similar latitude as northern Africa. So why is there so little AC in Europe? Because on average its much colder to begin with, thus no AC needed. Also, 80F is perfectly fine if you're used to it, unless you're doing hard work or absolutely have to wear a suit.

I miss this so much. I grew up in Germany (Ramstein/Ktown/Meisau) & when I try to explain to Window shops that I want to switch my American windows for these, they look at me like I’m crazy. American windows are completely boring. Yes. I said it. Not sorry. 🤷🏽♀️

A “box” in Italian is a one- or two-car garage. We also use body and shooting the same way, for a bodysuit and a photographic session respectively (especially fashion or advertising). We do use pullover too, and smoking for tuxedo.

Sorry, erst heute gesehen.
