As Germania I don't get trade rights with Britain and Gaul - I sell trade rights. You need every cent you can get and you can get 3500-4000 denari from that. You can also consider keeping a governor in Batavadorum (and nowhere else) , while enslaving Bordesholm and Vicus Gothi. I do agree that taking control of Britain is your first priority. Curiously in my last game the Gaul and the Julii were allies. Late in the game i found out the Julii had gone for Athens and Corinth.

My favourite faction since, as a German, the German faction is *always* my favourite: Germania in RTW, the HRE in Med 2, the Germans (HRE, basically) in Med1 (it's a great game even in the year of our Lord 2024), Prussia in NTW with Austria coming second. The thing that confuses me about Rome TW is the fact that Trier bears its modern name while modern Mainz is Mogontiacum. Germania is an amazing faction especially in 31k MP rules, the only viable barbarian faction. Barbarian phalangists, Gothic cav, Berserkers, elite archers and axemen, night raiders that frighten enemy units - it's like everything they lack are cheap archers. Also, I totally agree that Britain should be the 1st target with Gaul 2nd.

Wobei es hin und wieder auch befriedigend war, Londinium zu brandschatzen, sich zurück zu ziehen und die Britonen auf der Insel in die Bedeutungslosigkeit fallen zu lassen, während man sich nach Süden und Westen wendet...

Germania are probably the best barbarian faction to play. You can easily play tall for a while before expanding which makes a nice change. Plus they have a very fun unit roster.

My personal theory is, that with Germanias short campaign goals, the developers tried to mimic WWII Germany: First kick out the British from the continent - lack of ports in Samarobriva and elsewhere, so no Unternehmen Seelöwe. Then knock out the French and throw everything left to the east, while the thread of Europe's weak underbelly looms (the Americans first entered the European theatre via North Africa - Sicily - Mainland Europe). I have played Germania in all possible ways. First conquering the British Isles, then Gaul, then Spain and then moving over the Alps, is the classic and most fun way. Playing the short campaign objective, first conquering Dacia and then Scythia, is much harder, because horse archers are a natural counter to unarmored forest dwellers. But achieving this on VH/VH is quite fulfilling...

I do play EB way more and I did two fun campaigns with the Sweboz. In one I recreated the North Sea Empire of Knut, smashing the brits is great. In the other I did the Gothic migration. While I did manage to establish myself in the Pontic steppe and even expand around the Black Sea I was at war with everybody all the time and always at the edge of my treasury.

One thing to note about the Spear Warband is that they are pretty expensive - especially in upkeep. Their base cost is 520 and they have an upkeep of a whooping 200. Ghotic Cavalery which is your late game unit costs 790 with upkeep of mere 190 (and builds two turns) and Berserkers cost 930 with upkeep of only 120, Chosen Axemen with the cost of 580 and an upkeep of 200 or Barbarian Noble Cavalery that costs 600 with an upkeep of 160. Don't take me wrong, they are easily the best Tier 1 unit in the game and have an access to the best combat temple in the game, with the great synergy with all other German units, but it is somewhat balanced by their steep costs, which combines with pretty bad economic situation of Germany (no starting infrastructure, no ports, barbarian economy, no moneymaking temples). A little shame you didn't mentioned the Tavern-built Night Warriors infantry or didn't showed the priest retinues. Temples and their interactions with generals are a little mechanical bits of flavor that I love.

Btw, Screeching women are slightly less useful than druids - doesn't buff as much and gives the same debuff as druids. However, against civilized factions, you can reduce enemy melee attack by 2 with them compared to the druid's +2 to attack to your own troops.

Its funny you mention the Britons give a good economic base. I tried a Briton campaign recently, and even on Med/Med, I got my teeth absolutely kicked right the f*** in. By the time I actually got the cities in Briton high enough to get ports and armies strong enough to take on Gaul (I absolutely DESPISE chariots), I was getting ports blockaded constantly by Gaul first, then massive pirate fleets second. Then came the doomstacks from Germania. I was broke, no navy strong enough to defend my ports, no army strong enough to deal with Gaul while still having an army I could defend against Germania. No offense, but I dont know why people seem to find Britons so damn good in this game. To me they're utterly trash with tiny towns, slow growth, and bad economic position.😂

They are very rarely invaded. Very very rarely. You don't need much to keep your land.

@@nephalos666 If you give up on the mainland and only focus on the Isles, you need very little upkeep and can build up your lands surprisingly fast, specially if you do the peasant strategy with Londinium... spreading pop to Tara.
