For a Dutchman not living in the man's area his dialect is very hard to understand. The Netherlands used to have lots of dialects that varied from town to town. Nowadays there are still some strong dialects like the one from the second Dutch guy.

I don't speak a word of Dutch yet when I hear it, it feels VERY familiar, as I am a native English speaker. The only way I can describe it is Dutch sounds like "another" English but I don't understand any of the words.

@@HenkAngenik Are you sure? At 00:21 it says "2- Dutch". He sounds sounds like Dutch to me. Starting at 00:01 and labeled "1- Frisian" the guy in the checked shirt does not seem to be speaking Dutch. I agree with the comment that he sounds Australian - obviously not in the words but in the tone and the diphthongs.
@HenkAngenik
@HenkAngenik Жыл бұрын
@@fleaniswerkhardt4647 I completely missed the first guy. You're correct. The first one is Frisian, the second one Dutch and the third one speaks a dialect. I guess it should be Dutch, but it sounds more like Frisian to me (as a Dutchman). He talks about the town of Delfzijl so he probably speaks a Gronings dialect. Hard to understand if you're not from that part of the country.
@fleaniswerkhardt4647
@fleaniswerkhardt4647 Жыл бұрын
@@HenkAngenik I see. I thought the third guy was definitely talking Dutch - but sort of a broad Dutch with a lot of slang thrown in maybe. But Frisian is quite different to my ear.

1 is Dutch and 2 is Frysian. The first guy is Alexander Pechtold, a former politician for the D66 party who clearly speaks Dutch. Frysian is not spoken in our national parliament.
@HenkAngenik
@HenkAngenik Жыл бұрын
I stand corrected. The first one is indeed Frisian. Pechtold as first of the "Dutch guys" speaks the language that everyone in the Netherlands and Flanders can understand. The guy right after that who I mistakenly took as a Frisian is someone from the Groningen province who speaks with a heavy dialect. I for one have a hard time understanding him.
