This Heuer vise is pure quality, just great to see, that it survived so many years
@xxxmmm59427 жыл бұрын
Nicely done. A comment on the function of that bolt. Being a stop is its secondary function. Its main function is to take up the slack and minimize the play on the moving jaw by tightening the sides as the machined surfaces wear over time. While assembling the vice you did not tighten it enough so the moving jaw has quite some play at the end of the video. The trademark of Heuer vices is rock solid moving jaw with virtually no play. Tightening is a bit of a trial and error but you'll figure it out. If too tight, it won't move so you will know when to stop !
@Dr._Spamy5 жыл бұрын
On actual models the angle of this rail surfaces is much steeper (about 45°) so one don't need to tighten this cross bolt as much as on this old model, as this surfaces wear out. On this particular model the cross bolt seems to had slide on the bottom of the long hole instead, over a long time. Possible this vice was never readjusted or it had reached its limits in terms of readjustibility.

You have to grind away one of the ends. The way they do it is they add a step on the shaft of the handle, put the ring on and then mushroom out the end using a press

Could you please give me the dimensions of the handle so that I can complete my restoration of the vise. I have watched a lot of your videos over the time and I have enjoyed them, just wanted to say that. Greetings from The Netherlands.

I'll measure it when I get home, remind me if you don't hear from me in a couple of days. My memory was that it was a 12mm shaft with a 8mm step on the ends for the rings.
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
I measured the handle. The diameter of the shaft actually came out to 12.26 or almost exactly 1/2". Not sure if it was originally 13mm and wear has made in slightly smaller. The total length was around 200mm. The steps for the rings are 8mm. The Rings are 19mm outer diameter and about 6mm in height.

Hello. Do you have any opinion / tested on the german brand Stahlwille? After i found the Wera calender, i searched for different brands and saw that stahlwille sold one for 99 Euros (!). I saw their other offerings and theyre quite expensive compared to the wera/wiha. Also, im curios about Ratchet tool. Im fairly new to this, when/to what do i use this? Instead of a screwdriver for example. Is Wiha and Wera simular in quality? I have bought Wera only so far.
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
Stahlwille is a higher end brand compare to Wera/Wiha. Stahlwille specializes in tools for the aviation industry. I did actually get a Stahlwille advent calendar yesterday and will be posting some videos on that shortly. Wiha and Wera I would say are about the same quality.

While it's really nice to have the option of easily removing the vice handle - personally - I would employed a circlip - way more discrete and way more classy. Another personal note - any old tool is worthy of refurbishment / restoration and I have enjoyed this presentation. Oh yeah - once the paint had been colour matched I would have suggested bead blasting the remaining dirt, grime, rust and paint from the pieces before refinishing.

Nice video man. Are most vices constructed similarly to this one?
@GermanToolReviews7 жыл бұрын
No, most vises these days have a front moving jaw. However, they all have the same basic components, a long lead screw and nut in the rear of the unit. Turning the screw will move one of the jaws. The threads on those lead screws would be similar to acme threads (trapezoidal profile) in order to handle the higher loads.
@tatsngrass7 жыл бұрын
German Tool Reviews Sorry I wasn't very clear. What I really should have asked are most vises about the same internally? If I wanted to take on a project like this for myself how would you rate the difficulty?

Wrong! Company is called Brockhaus Heuer. The model name is Heuer Front
@robertmuller72777 жыл бұрын

The original paint looks like Feldgrau (field gray); I have seen the wrong description on paint cans as Feldgrün (field green). I guess it is oil paint, those are remarkably durable. Maybe it is war time production for the army and they speeded it up and left more tool marks. The standard version I have seen in old catalogues was black.
