Major props for being able to get that kind of cash in Landesliga. That's a league where some guys practice once a week and most guys actually pay to play.

Appreciate that, man. Yes, this was definitely an exception to the rule. With that being said, there will always be leagues in lower divisions desperate to advance to the next level. So opportunities like this will present themselves to others in the future if they play their cards right.

@@wavecurry I’d try to focus on the Asian market specifically as you get older. Lots of countries now have crossover with “Asian import” rules.

In Germany a team reached out to me. When I was in Latin America I did everything on my own.

Hey Jose, great videos and insights, please keep it up! I would have expected you to be a little more thankful and humble about the opportunity you have been given, certainly in COVID times. I know many players who now have day jobs at gas stations and such to get by. It looks to me this team gave you a fair contract, take care of you and made clear what it is from day one. It also looks like you have a great intercultural experience with them, worth more than money. Now wanting out after three games does not seem like the right request for me. Just some thoughts. Tom

Since the Landesliga is unpaid, how are they able to pay you?

It’s not necessarily unpaid or paid. That’s just the overall trend. Generally speaking players are unpaid in that league. But certain teams will want to advance to the next division so they will go “all-in” and bring in a paid foreigner. There were two other clubs with foreigners in this league when I was playing. I assume they were also receiving something in compensation. Hope that helps.

As he explained you get paid for a coaching job but you can earn max. 450 Euros for that because the Club otherwise has to pay taxes. Besides that you need a partial or full time Job which earns you more than 450 Euros so you get your health insurance covered and your good to go. Most Clubs get sponsored by some company or person, in that case you might have a chance to get housing and stuff

Yes they do, commonly in my region it starts at Oberliga or Regionalliga 2 that teams actively try to get americans or higher tier players to play for their team. Landesliga rarely does this.

Yes, man - plenty of D3 guys playing overseas. Those small college players can be some of the hungriest guys out there.

How do you feel about Eurobasket's summer league? Is that a good step to take?

From what I have seen they seem to get a decent number of players tryouts/opportunities. Obviously the player profile they can help the most are those of European descent/ Cotonou. The players with those passports succeed the most with them. I’m actually doing a video breaking down the numbers on who they’ve helped and where.
