For the equation of z^2 - (x + y )z + xy = 0, a = 1, b = -(x + y), c = xy z = (- b ± √(b^2 - 4ac)) / 2 = ((x + y) ± √((x + y )^2 - 4xy)) / 2 = (4 ± √(4^2 - 4*16) / 2 = (4 ± √(16 - 4*16) / 2 = (4 ± √(- 3*16) / 2 = (4 ± 4√(- 3) / 2 = (4 ± 4√3 i) / 2 = 2 ± 2√3 i
