40% of Volkswagon's sales come from sales in China, the largest automobile market. Volkswagon has already fired its software engineers and invested in a Chinese software firm to create the software needed to compete. In addition, they will be using Chinese EV platforms for their newer generation EVs. They are now talking about closing plants in Germany because sales are down. Chinese EVs will be welcomed in Latin America, Asia and Africa, leaving western manufacturers only the US and European markets at best.

Tarriffs work. If England had not imposed tariffs on imported textiles, their own textile industries would have never gotten off the ground, and the industrial revolution would have started elsewhere and England would have been left behind. Obviously you think VW should go after the disappearing 40% of Chinese sales and totally abandon their other 60% of sales. Makes sense for China. And VW's problem is it is overburdened with regulations and bureaucracy. Embracing China to do all of its manufacturing won't save it.

Those with the most to lose, don't want tariffs yet the EU leadership continues to pursue tariffs against Chinese EV. It seems kinda stupid that those with the most to lose say no and yet the EU presses on with the tariffs This is the same leadership that continued EU support of the Ukraine war and has all but bankrupt the EU. The Europeans are about to go under and will certainly suffer some serious damage before things get better if ever. The German industrialists are investing in China and it seems they see their future in China, not Europe. They also realize that any products they make in China will be taxed if imported into the EU. The smart money is in BRICS as investments rise in the Middle East, Central Asia, South East Asia, and Latin America. BRICS and the SCO are rising and the EU and NATO are fracturing.

El Sur global es otro mercado que le está dando paso a la industria automotriz y en otros asuntos técnicos a China. Las condiciones son favorables para todos los actores. Missing : huge losses from EV leasing. Vehicle Leases are prefinanced by banks. In addition, the EU has an insufficient number of charging stations (travel is risky, many EVs need to get roadside assistance) which kills off confidence, therefore the second hand market. Second hand prices are a fraction of forecast. The result is a disaster. Suspending EV tax breaks has already begun. Green parties losing elections. What’s next ? Banks defaulting ? This is a matter of survival. Our ‘leaders’ are all barking up the same trees and don’t seem to get the full picture. One promotes the greenery and another one sees banks in trouble because of it. They fail to foresee all the consequences of their actions. ‘Leaders’ ?

Mr Draghi is a lifelong evangelist for European integration and always sees the answer as more Europe. But it is hard not to notice that Europe’s decline coincides exactly with the launch of monetary union at Maastricht - and the convulsions that this later entailed - followed by treaty inflation (Amsterdam, Nice, Lisbon) and EU encroachment into every nook and cranny of national life. The sovereign states of East Asia are prospering nicely without locking themselves together in a tight union. One might legitimately ponder whether Europe would be healthier today if it had let nations be nations, and had never launched the European project along Monnet lines in the first place. The EU itself is the elemental problem.
