The slow down in Germany economic is not unexpected considering the fact the cheap energy supply from Russia was no longer coming as it use to be. The implication of that is that the cost of production of goods in Germany increased which then led to less competitiveness in an open market.

It is called white washed. According to western news media and even some Indian news media China's growth of 5.5% so far is terrible. If you type anything on China's growth, you get loom and doom scenarios. But yet, the USA only grew at 2%, UK at 0.3%, and Germany at 0.4%. The EU as a whole for 2024 is projected to grow only 1.6%. USA for the next 5 years is projected to grow 2.4% a per year. China is still projected to be 4.5-5% India is projected to be 5-6% in 2024 So globally, GDP growth is going to be slow for everyone but the west can always say China is collasping over and over. If China get 7%, they will say well its not 10. If China gets 5, its loom and doom but they don't talk about the 2% for the USA or 1.1% for the EU. Again, all they can do is yap. China "saying low things about others won't make yourself high."

My 2 cents here: After living in Germany for more than 13 years, it is sad to say that the crisis is true. And it's not temporary. The inflation (even though decreasing at a snail's pace)and the stagnant wages are hitting the people real hard at the moment. But they also have more bigger problems to handle and what the govt. is doing is just not enough. They will have huge working population crisis in the coming years which in turn slows down the economy not to mention the pension for the now working people in the next 20 years is a big question itself. Why? because the Govt. pays from the current working employees contribution. Ridiculous policy for a developed nation and it will hit hard in the face in the coming decade.

Germany has know for decades their dependance on Russian gas and oil, but turned a complecent blind eye on it because it was convenient, and did not diversify their economy one bit, basing everything on manufacturing and exports, neither did they invest anything in their military for decades (it is today one of the weakest of Western Europe). They also decided to shut down their nuclear power plants at the worst possible time ever, so unfirtunately, they are paying a lot of their past bad decisions today.

The number given in the main comment seems to be a bit misleading. He has not taken into account both merchandise and services combined. I think he has only taken merchandise trade deficit. Secondly we have a large domestic consumption base. So, only trade deficit figures may not be an accurate measure of the health of an economy. We have a large consumer base and our economic growth is pretty decent.

The gas prices here in Germany are actually not much higher than before the war - so pleas don't spread false informations. I‘m living in Germany and the „crisis“ isn’t as big as it seems. Our country had problems to shift away from Russian gas but the government handled the situation already. The inflation is also decreasing and with subsidies form the government we can expect economic growth already next year. Germanys economy is very versatile and robust so no need to worry. Germany is the 3th largest economic power in the world with “only” 80 mio citizens.

The only real reason for Germany's recent success - cheap steady guaranteed and endless supply Russian energy. China is manufacturing more and more of its energy from green sources - wind, sun, hydroelectricity, hydrogen, nuclear and still have access to cheap fossil energy from its friends - Russia, Iran, Saudi, Venezuela etc. It would be difficult for Germany to manufacture its own green energy immediately.
