This was an extremely challenging video to put together because it’s hard to gauge success. Not to mention, gentrification leads to some level of negative impact, regardless of how well it’s done, I’m not saying Leipzig is perfect or didn’t make mistakes. However, I did the best research I could and in my opinion, there’s a lot to be learned from this city.

3:14 i don't know what kind/size of flats you were looking at but in general Plagwitz is one of the more expensive parts of Leipzig (especially because of gentrification) and A LOT of people can't afford such rents i can understand the feeling that Leipzig did better than cities in North America, but jesus, we still slept on so many things - a lot of the initial art, culture and social life which made Plagwitz (or other districts) such a popular space to begin with is already displaced and i think that's something you won't grasp with basic research and one month living somewhere

I really enjoyed this video. I was thinking; he is a really good story teller while I was watching. I went to Berlin briefly last month. I am planning to go back to Germany one day and hopefully spend a month. I definitely will spend some time in Leipzig now! Thanks for the insight.

Gentrification isn't planned it's happening trough the market. The city didn't do anything. Leipzig is just unique because of a lot of historical coincidences. Also it's getting worse an worse. It's not a positive example for gentrification.

Completely agree with you about Capitalism as an excuse. We seem to have forgotten that investment comes with risks.

If u get alg2 the rents are actually to high unless u wanne live in a shoe box But thsts more becouse the lazy butts who decide how much rent would be suitsble just cslculated to little city parts like eisbahnstraße or grünau really drsged the quer cut down and noone considered this

hey - cool video! people say 'Leipzig is the new Berlin' . its a conservative city breaking into more 'multikulti' ecosystem but still long way to go

It’s a unique city, the New Berlin thing I get but definitely more affordable, people are a little more approachable here too, glad you liked the video 😃
