Leipzig or Wiesbaden? Was ist besser?
@luisaw.9522 жыл бұрын

Great video, my mother was born in Leipzig. My grandfather was a dentist but in 1937 the family fled Germany because of Nazi politics and policies. They went to Cuba and stayed there until the communist revolution at which time they again emigrated to the US. My grandmother loved Leipzig, she was also born there and grew up there, she would tell us (her grandchildren) about her work in the fur industry and about the architecture and of course the food. I’ve never visited there but your video has peaked my interest!

@michaausleipzig3 жыл бұрын
@@samuelandaudrey a little boring trivia on that one: Lerche is german for lark i.e. the sweet little song bird. And yes, originally those were sort of little meat pies with lark inside. But towards the end of the 18th century catching larks was banned and bakers from Leipzig just changed the ingredients a bit, made it a sweet pastry and only kept the distinct meat pie shape of the original. And it's very yummy nowadays! 😊

You gave an interesting insight into Leipziger life art culture. Interesting to see that part of city I've seen some typical street culture around the university and Connewitz that looked similar. Even though, an important part you've missed out completely is the Bach and Mendelssohn heritage. Listening to a concert rehearsal in the Thomas Kirche makes you feel Bach's soul being still inside. Another important part of Leipzig has to do with the Monday demonstrations that contributed to the fall of the former communist regime. There are lots of interesting places that cover up that part of history, also the Stasi-Museum.

Not sure how long we shall be here but if you are in the KC area let me know. I am going to move out in few months of Leipzig after 8 years in this city, here is my experience as non german person. First of all the HYPE was not so present but since a fews years (2017-18) I realized a large majority of the city is SUPER ego hyped people following trends from internet but not in a good way. Even the underground places feel cringy now and kind of fakely aware. Sad because it ruins the potential of this city who's also very politicly engaged to not say too much and at the end it's also kind of just a trend. There are tons of cultures and new people from different horizons but again the melting pot don't really make you feel welcome and in 8 years a lot has changed so I can't even imagine for the truly Leipziger. It was also very difficult for me the first year to make friends because of my poor german skills and facing for the first time xenophobic behaviors, also the weather was playing a lot on me but if you are well surrounded then everything become easier (thanks Ostapotheke). Leipzig has also good points, a lot of park and very close lakes where you can relax, the city is not small but also not big so you can easily move between differents hoods. Also met some nice people during my long staying but I have to say I feel kind of relief to leave. Leipzig is ok if you are students in their 20's but definetely not suitable for everyone. At some points I was feeling so drained out just by taking a walk because people play a very weird egocentric game and that's not positive at all to not say this feeling was growning constantly. Some will say it's the big cities feelings but you can still go to larger cities and don't feel like an anomaly.
