I have an old Product Enterprise diecast Stingray, which was, I believe, created from measurements taken from one of Derek Meddings' original scale drawings. Weighs a ton, and is beautiful.

I think despite a couple of hiccups stingray has turned out excellent. It was a great idea to add a cockpit too as it definitely makes stingray look even better. It's also great to see Maggie back & this time gaurding the entrance to your inner sanctum. A thoroughly enjoyable video Ian. Thanks.👍

Thanks Eric. I'm glad I decided to "enhance" the kit rather than just make it as a motorised toy

I built the original Midori Stingray, which this kit is based on, back in the 60s. It came with tubes lumpy paint, which looked hideous when I got done painting. But it was all we had back then.

We worked with what we had 😀 I remember my Airfix toy soldiers got a blob of gloss red enamel paint for a face and off they went to war

Oh, LEE Models, I've still got a 1:800 USS Enterprise CVN-65 (Pre-Refit) made by them, to go with a 1:800 scale Klingon Bird of Prey. Most of the nautical vehicles they make are made to go in water.

Have a look at the 'Harry Houdini' model site - he's made a Stingray custom. It's rather good - and he still hasn't finished it.

Are there decals?

Just a sticky back name which is basically useless unless you are making it up as a toy

@@imarmodels Meh. I just found the Comet Miniatures vacuform Stingray kit Tony James released around 1986-87. I built it back in the day and I can build it better now. At least it has a clear Ratemaster. I'll have to coat the decals with Micro Decal Film; they were dodgy then, they have to be worse now. (They fractured when dipped in water.)
@imarmodels2 ай бұрын
I had a few Comet Stingrays back in the day, his vac formed kits were never great as they were produced by laying the styrene over a buck rather than the styrene being sucked into an mold so his stuff lost a lot of detail. I agree the decals were always useless and brittle even when new.

How much did it cost to get the interior printed as i do not have the equipment to do it myself

@@imarmodels how much would you charge to do one for me with the 2 figures
@imarmodels Жыл бұрын
I'm no good with 3D creating the figures otherwise I would have done them for my cockpit. If in the UK I could do the cockpit print for a tenner plus postage.

Firstly, not sure why it's taken 9 months for this video to come up in my recommendations, given I've been watching Harry Houdini's build and other GA related content- more hashtags? Good work sir on what looks to be a difficult kit! I especially like the 3d print interior - would you ever consider going back and accurizing it, should a large kit become available? I need a plastic Stingray kit for my collection but I'd hate to pay current rates for some of the Japanese kits out there - talking of which, check this guys video and then some of his other collection videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIunf6Ojfs2cha8si=IgHN3A5tq934eKAk
@imarmodels9 ай бұрын
Thanks, KZbin's recommended algorithm is a mystery lol. Yeah if I got a bigger and better Stingray kit (such as the old Wave one) I'd redo the cockpit print to add more accuracy.

@Ian Marchant I have three Stingray models. One a little Matchbox one. Nice but low detail. Another medium sized with missiles and a tiny Troy Tempest inside if memory serves. And a bigger one in a box with great artwork on the box. For the 3.75 inch figures. Again Matchbox. I regret not buying a Product Enterprises version as all of mine are toys effectively but nice. I enjoyed the video.

Thanks David, I used to have the big one for the Matchbox figures with a view to trying yo make it more accurate but it would have needed much too much work. Lovely toy though as most of Matchbox's output was

As soon as you mentioned Midori. I knew the answer. The answer is; NO! The kit is very toy like (Somewhat like Imai kits). The Midori Seaview (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea) is awful. I've built this kit. The sound board does nothing more than 'squeek'. You've pointed out the other faults (as have others).
@1960jackrussell7 ай бұрын
This is a chinese copy and as such of poor quality if you want one you have to search for the Doyusha kit which are very expensive now and very rare

As a collectable the original might be worth getting but as a model kit probably not lol

Hi Ian I have the Doyusha one and obviously the windows are too tall and frames need adjusting and other things but its not an Airfix unfortunately which I doubt are available at all as they were not sold to general public ,still we can only work with what we have
@imarmodels7 ай бұрын
I've seen three Airfix in my entire life and none of them were in great condition. Comet Miniatures did a resin copy of an Airfix but they were pretty ropey.
