"Right Down The Line" was the second single from Gerry Rafferty's "City To City" album after "Baker Street". It was a #1 Adult Contemporary hit for four weeks and did you know that "City to City" was the album that knocked "Saturday Night Fever" off the top of the album chart?
Rafferty and Joe Egan formed a band named Stealer's Wheel and with "Stuck In The Middle With You" peaking at #6 pop. Produced by Leiber & Stoller the group had two more hits and then broke up. The litigation of the suit prevented Rafferty from recording solo for most of the 70's but he came back with "City To City".
He wrote the song for his wife, who stood by him during those hard times "it's just my way of saying thank you."
Rafferty had two more singles in 1979 but then faded away leaving us with the sax driven "Baker Street" and the valentine "Right Down The Line".
