Hideously underappreciated. Gerry Rafferty was one of the best singer/songwriters ever.

@@borisVspider66 It's hideous how it takes someone's death to truly appreciate their work. I've heard songs like *"Baker St"* and *"Right Down the Line",* but there's so much more he's done in his lifetime than many people realise or know about.

It certainly is, this is actually my video, i am Dave Lennon (uploader) but i lost access to this account.. i went to Gerrys funeral and was in the documentary about his life made by the BBC after he passed away.

Wonderful! Thanx One of the greatest voices in the modern age. There are very few singers as good as the great Gerry Rafferty.

Gerry Rafferty. I think I bought 'City to city' just because of the nice cover even before Baker Street were knowned here in Sweden. I immediately got cought by (I think) the third, song 'Right down the line'; the sort of hanging vocals and the bass line. And then later he got really famous. His music has stayed with me trough all these years, his vocals and songs and arrangements has inspirered me a lot!

My first album was Snake and Ladders, not the best one really. Later I heard City to City and then Sleepwalking. Gerry Rafferty is one of my big leading stars, musically.

Never heard this version with the pipes at the beginning; thanks for posting! Such a great songwriter--definitely music for grown-ups.

I agree. The first time I'd heard this song was from *"Right Down the Line - very best of Gerry Rafferty."* It didn't have the intro with the pipes. I was shocked when I heard *this* version. I was like *"What?! Why the hell did they leave out the pipes?! That would've made it more fun to listen!"*

This track is on a Best of Gerry Rafferty, a CD available used via amazon. This is one of many standout tracks, melding rock with his trademark vocals, plus lilting traditional pipes. Thanks to 'hodgepic007' for rescuing so much of the rare Rafferty

My only complaint with *"Right Down the Line: Best of Gerry Rafferty"* was that they left out the intro to this song. They should *never* do that, even if it's to play on radio.

Apparently, Rafferty felt as though he wasn't being respected for his songwriting. Apparently, it was not enough for people to enjoy his music, they had to respect him and his songwriting.

@mrbarleymob Who says it's without argument? Since you use that charming epithet (look it up) 'sweaty' I assume you don't even live in Scotland so I doubt your assumption holds much weight. In either case I don't particularly give a rat's ass for your opinion.
