great video gerry. they're good cattle there you have. you're right about the friesians we always have a lot of them unfortunately because for some reason when we use friesian sires on the cows we seem to get more like 75% bulls than 50% 🤔👍
@gerry64206 жыл бұрын
AgriFan why is that.... u think it would be closer to 50/50. It is closer to 50/50 with sucklers, yes some years the bulls ahead, some years hiefiers. But they even out over few years.

gerry6420 havee no idea last 2 years have been mostly bulls and so far this year 3 out of 3 were bulls so far and. another 20 to go... have read about other dairy farmers experiencing the same. the last succesful year we had was 2015 with 10 heifers and 2 bulls. heard some tales of the ai co's giving us smaller dairy farmers the bulls 🤔 fingers crossed for a more even bull heifer ratio this year 👍

We had a charolais bull one time and out of our 55 cows we had around 10 or 12 heifer's each year, twas a great job

Do ye have a lad buying cattle for ye? Just thinking it would take a lot of time in marts to put that number of cattle together.
@gerry64205 жыл бұрын
Bambinohead1 we have 2 guys. 1 guy buys our older cattle which would be straight in to feed and another buys the younger stock. Wouldn’t have time going to sales every week.

How in the world do they not get eye disorders having feed thrown that close to faces? Wondered what’s in your feed we’re feeding our first yearling bull and he’s not gaining enough
@gerry64204 жыл бұрын
No never any eye issues. What are you feeding him. Add a little maize meal to his diet.... or some wheat or barley. Up his energy intake

S2E K9 not at all. Plenty of room for them all to lay down.They don’t need to feed all at once as it’s a mixed ration. What’s the point in having sheds if your not gona have them at full capacity.
@zoezazee23 жыл бұрын
@@gerry6420 "plenty of room" what a joke. The point of not having full capacity would be caring for your animals but I guess you don't give a shit about that.

They're not exactly what you'd call fancy to, but prob leave more money behind. Would you bother lopping the horns off them lads?
@gerry64206 жыл бұрын
Bambinohead1 we see in few weeks. Cost is mounting. There on full feed since end of September. We Dehorn them as calves but few get through net. Unless they were causing an issue we leave them on. Gives them a bit of character. 😂

Might b hard done. Might have enough on your plate that day, but would love too see a video of them going up the ramp. Nice to look at finished cattle and see the fruits of your efforts. Tks
