@@gerrymcveigh when were you up? We left the stone in a gap in the wall at our campsite in the forest across from the ice House, just weird to see it moved. Where did you see it as I was up today n didn't come across it.

Simon, I was up at the start of November and it wasn't too far from where you left it - it was at the information board at the last bridge just before heading out of the forest.

Brilliant ! You must have spent a lot of time just filming never mind the walking and then the editing……..! Thanks for sharing this. I once had the thrill of camping at the site you showed at the end of the Ben Crom reservoir with about 4 inches (10cm) of snow on the ground. We walked in from the Trassey car park in the dark but no torches were required due to the snow cover and the moon. The snow in the Coll between Lamagan and Cove the next day was waist deep. This would have been in February 85 or 86, no photographs since I didn’t have a camera.
@gerrymcveigh
@gerrymcveigh 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers John, filming pretty much doubles the time taken and editing is usually a full day (though not all at once). That sounds like a brilliant trip from the 80's with snow on the ground (a rarer occurrence these days I think, especially waist deep!).

I didn't want to miss a second of this one gerry. I watched intently the mist, the valleys, the crags, the domes, the saddles and the pinnacle shapes let alone the cascading rivers. Amazing time out there. Ha ha, when you mentioned putting the rocks in place to stop you slipping I had a vision of you waking up with your knees bent upward. Well, what a morning. One of your best for a while. All the best over there. Mark

Miriam, I have to say that I agree about the noodles (I am far too cheap) and to cap it all I couldn't even add the tuna as the tin I brought had no ring pull 😊 A cup of tea and ginger nuts are the best way to end the day when wild camping. Take care 😊

@gerrymcveigh 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers, I thought it was a great spot though it wasn't easy to pick somewhere in the dark and with the mist reflecting light back from the head torch. I was sliding all over the place and had to get up in the middle of the night to reposition, though that is all part of the fun of wild camping 😊

Hi Gerry, I know you’re much more of a hiker but would you have any recommendations for wild camping spots in forests? Preferably more expansive ones that are abit isolated. Cheers!
@gerrymcveigh
@gerrymcveigh 3 жыл бұрын
Dylan, not sure what part of the country you are from? The only thing that is really springing to mind is the extensive forest in the Nephin Beg Mountains in Mayo - from Letterkeen along the Western Way, really remote and absolutely stunning area. I am sure there are many others and you might get better feedback posting on a FB group like Wild Camping Ireland.
