Small suggestion: After repair, first check the spool leaks. Fill the P Port hole with oil and observe the oil level to be same for a minute. Do the same for T, A & B port holes.

You totally skipped inspecting the valve body for damage. There is no way it isn't with that much damage on the spool.

Hi Scott, thank you for this step-by-step explanation of the valve. I have what looks like this same valve on my tractor. I just purchased a new grapple and connected the hoses but the grapple is not opening when I use the 3rd function switch. I bought the tractor used with the 3rd function kit already installed. I never used the 3rd function before now. I don't hear anything when I push the button on the joystick and the hoses don't move when the button is pressed either. I suppose I should start with testing to see if 12v power is getting to the valve. If so, then remove and inspect the valve. Is that what you recommend?

Thank you for taking the time to disassemble, inspect and repair the faulty directional valve in the video, sir. That's really the only way that folks are going to actually understand how these valves work. We have a backhoe here that has an intermittent reverse issue. CAT calls the hydraulic valve that controls their "FWD-REV shuttle shift" operation the "Shuttle Control Valve Group." My question is whether or not there may be a way to buy parts for the directional valve to affect our own repairs? I'd also like to know which tools are normally employed to remove a valve assembly like the one in the video? Our valve also has four deep holes, but it's mounted in such a way that one cannot see down into the holes. Please keep up the great work.

what actually happens when the coil energizes ? will the key moves toward the coil due to magnetization or move away from coil so that it hit and pushes the spool.

The old spool showed severe damage, and the valve body or housing should have significant wear too, I would replace that too.

Was there no need to change O ring on the solenoids ? Also how do you know that the valve body itself is not damaged with that badly damaged spool. I do not work on hydraulics and have just started studying the subject so i am simply asking as a complete novice. Thanks Michael

Good day. My air tyfon is not working correctly. It can start, but it did not stop by itself. Solenoid valve is opened but could not to close. Tyfon only stop when closed air inlet valve manually. May be you now what can be the reason?

Hello! Sometimes the spool can be revived and sometimes due to tolerance it needs to be replaced. What information are you looking for with regards to the set screw?

Excellent video. Very informative. I would like to ask what is the purpose of small steel balls (visible if you look into the directional control valve) from the side. I heard it is to check the integrity of the valve by inserting an ailen key into that.Is it correct?

In this particular valve there are no steel balls inside, no checks. Do you happen to know if you are asking about a directional valve or a proportional valve? This unit is a directional valve and generally not have any checks inside. Please let me know if we can help or if you need to speak with a technician! Thank you!
