My Grandma was Barese and thats exactly the way she spoke. If I was doing something I wasn't supposed to do she would say walyone vatenne a la. Thats phonetically speaking. Thanks I love it.

I'm trying to learn a bit of barese to speak with my 93 year old nonna, thank you for these tips on pronunciation. Though I remember hearing "ashpet" ( horrible spelling, bare with me) and "che dai?" I wish there was a dialect school around me, but sitting in with the elders conversations are the best way I've found to pick it up. Before I started school I was apparently fluent in Italian, but now I only know what those few words I've mentioned above mean, along with their pronunciations. Ps, I recently learned "pishan" ( terrible attempt at spelling "piss") and "cacace"("shit")...lol thanks nonna

As an American who has lived in Bari for over 18 years, I found your video most refreshing and comical. It is great and you guys have a great sense of humor! Thanks for the laughs! Dialect will be harder for you to get than Italian. Stick to the good stuff! Gratz u' professor' Marco! Statt' bbuunn!

As an American living in Bari for over 18 years, I found your video hilarious!! Great job! You gals will have the dialect down in a few years - Italian is easier to learn than dialetto. Your sense of humor was refreshing as well! Bravo Marco! ('u professor!)

actually dialects change a lot from one city to another, also if you just move from bari to modugno (that's about 10 km). the dialect this guy speaks is not from bari, it's from a nearby place. i can give the equivalent barese prononciations if you want.

mister ziegler Yeah you're right. The dialect is from Trani I believe.

Hilarious. My mom (who's Molisana) does an incredible Barese imitation, which has us in stitches.

This isn't barese's dialect. You're "provincials" and you speak the dialect of "Tzijatzì"! :-D
@nicomongelli66982 жыл бұрын
@Mocanu Stefan do you know turkish alphabet and a little of turkish language?
@nicomongelli66982 жыл бұрын
@Mocanu Stefan I asked you this, because the authentic Bari's dialect can be transliterated very well with the Turkish alphabet. There are many similarities between Bari and Turkish pronuntiation.
@nicomongelli66982 жыл бұрын
@Mocanu Stefan I said Turkish, not Albanian. I know what I said.
@Mocanu Stefan The " ı " (without accent) is pronounced like the guttural sign " ǝ " (as in English); the final "e" is not read (as in French); in the hiatus "eu", the "e" is pronounced almost silently, giving greater reinforcement to the "u". The real Bari dialect is difficult because it has 3300 terms from Turkish (such as the word 'yavaş' which means to slow down or 'muvıtı' which means 'hurry up'), French, Spanish and, of course, Latin.
