How were the books of the New Testament selected for inclusion in the Bible? Did the authors of the New Testament understand that what they were writing was meant to be included as Scripture for widespread distribution?
In plenary session #11 of the 2024 Grace Evangelical Society National Conference, John Niemelä of Message of Life Ministries discusses 2 Peter 3:15-16 and shows how these verses contradict the traditional view of canonicity and how the authors of the New Testament intended for their writings that are part of the New Testament to be accepted and distributed widely as Scripture.
2 Peter 3:15-16 (NKJV)
"and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation-as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures."
