I guess I'm really your target group here. Blasting with slalom withouth sometimes thinking...hey...could I change the set-up. Last time out I could see the fron of my board splashing to waves and thought ok....but then put the mastfoot 2 cm backwards for the fun of it and the effect was exactly like you describe. The board was immensely balanced riding on top of the water effortlessly even overpowered. This video, like you say, is like holy grail for those riders with sticky boards when powered. So off to trimming for me as well. Great stuff! Thanks a million for Revealing the secrets of speed.

@@WindsurfingNils on a T293 board or a regular board (not sure if it's slalom) the Techno board has another big fin in the middle that's retractable. Not sure how it works on other boards upwind.

Nils I’ve bought a point-7 ac1 7.8 sail and I’ve rigged it with rrd mast 100% carbon. I went on the water for the first time and the cambers were very hard to turn, I had to push them in every jibe by hands, any tips for smoother turn? Or it’s just incompatible? Have you ever used a different brad for sails and masts? By the way great advice as always, Keep it up🤙🤙

It seems that although the physics of the vertical lift component were well explained, you missed the simplest instruction of the whole point of the video, which is to lift your heels while you are sailing to slightly sink the leeward rail (or same thing, lifting the windward rail). Doesn’t this provide additional vertical lift beyond flexing of the fin? I’m not a racer at all, but I was under the impression that racers used very stiff fins. Is this to prevent twisting of the fin, and that they do not really rely on the fin flex for lift? Thank you for your videos, I’m an old recreational windsurfer(30+ years)/winger that still finds some improvements in my sailing by viewing videos by guys like you.

But in wave you don't ride so much on the fin(s), you have much more board in the water. But try it!

with a single fin it is possible with multi fins not. The reason for this is that a longer fin creates a higher leverage. Therefore it is so simple with the long slalom fins.

Great video Nils, im a 67kg rider and ive heard that modern windsurfer boards are designed for people 85kg so at my weight the board doesnt seem to work well with normal mast base position or normal strap positions, i have my straps all the way back and tend to run the mast base along way back to get the board flying but its a fine line sometimes the board then flys away, any advice for lightweight riders to go faster? cheers

@maeldervaux4837 Ай бұрын
Being 60/61kg I have the exact same issue, I am always very far back on mast track and straps and struggle to get enough lift. I think we might benefit from using a slightly softer fin that will bend easier under our small weight, compared to a stiffer fin that will require re pressure Did you experiment since your comment ? Do you use a seat or waist harness ? Maël
@outdoormatt2177
@outdoormatt2177 Ай бұрын
@@maeldervaux4837 Hi Mael, Im always experimenting 😆, latley im finding in strong wind taking the mast base forward helps me keep the board from flying away and then I go faster, i use a seat harness and run carbon fins. Its a fine line being light as we cant hold as big a sails in strong winds, im finding myself having to run a bigger sail than is comfortable to then get the odd faster runs.

As someone with aspergers autism and an ex surfer/shaper, I can't help thinking it should be the leeward rail to be lifted. I understand that your goal is to have the fin in a more horizontal plane to extract a verticle lift. But this wouldn't necessarily matter which way the fin was slanted. Another thing is that, in surfboards, big single fins, that are used in windsurfers are slower, with greater drag, than smaller multifins. Surfers use the rail in combination with smaller fin/fins, which increases speed with less drag, and which doesn't appear to be the case with windsurfing, except in turns. Kiteboards, on the other hand, take advantage of the windward rail with small fins. So, in essence, windsurfers are trying to rely on semi foiling by using a large fin. But it's known that foiling more efficient, but in regard to top speed, it is sub optimal. Just saying/thinking. Cheers
