Indianapolis, Indiana - Anglophilic Yank, here. I've yet to make it across the pond, but when I do, one of the country houses I must visit is Renishaw Hall in Derbyshire, home of the Sitwell family. I was struck by the photograph in Life Magazine of Dame Edith Sitwell when I was young, and came to learn more about her over the years. Quintessential English eccentrics. I think there are quite a few significant country houses in Derbyshire. New subscriber!

Love the channel. Subscribed for a while now. I wish to say without detracting from the beauty and majesty of these national treasures that most would benefit from a good wash. Some still have coal dust residue from Victorian era heating. I feel a new and vibrant industry could emerge whose purpose was to refresh and renew these one-of-a-kind works of art for posterity. Power steaming and laser cleaning would harmlessly bring these historical masterworks into the 21st century along with the rest of us. I love English country houses. It was the "entree" subject that introduced me to all things British.

Fantastic video, my only comment is that even on our large television, I had trouble making out the names of the houses down in the lower left corner.

Many houses here…Do you have to ask each house for permission to get the little drone up?

Hi there. I ordinarily ask for permission first and indeed have it from most of the big independent properties whom I have a good relationship with. The NT however are a bit of a nightmare as they have a blanked ‘no drone’ policy, but fortunately this can’t be enforced and is a bit laughable. I can essentially fly wherever I want providing I abide by the rules set by the CAA and don’t breach privacy etc. I am very conscious of what I post and that this indeed doesn’t breach the privacy rights of individuals. I do take this seriously. Essentially though, no one owns the air above them. There is English case law to this effect.

@@Xploreheritage hi mate. Yea i’ve always wondered about the useable airspace above people’s land and how low you can fly with out encroaching on privacy laws.some say that you cant take off and land on private land like the NT but you can fly over, just not too low in the usable air space, but how low is that lol.

@@Xploreheritage I got this vid recommended to me which is a big coincidence as I just uploaded a harewood house drone reel in golden hour…Its only 70 secs long but catches the right angles etc. not my usual drone subject but came out well

@@denaco It is a bit of a tricky one. You do need permission to launch from private property, but there is nothing stopping you from launching from a public area (road/bridleway) etc and flying in - providing you are not contravening a bye law (Don’t worry about the NT as their bylaws date to the 1960’s and would never stand up in court) However, you must be registered with the CAA with a flyer ID and Operator ID, have A2 Certificate of competence if flying over buildings, and also keep the drone in visual line of site (VLOS). You must abide by the rules as stipulated by the CAA. And, as you mention, privacy is, understandably a big thing. There are then the ethical considerations. Just because you can fly someone doesn’t meant that you should. I operate in the A2 category and am very conscious of unintentional damage I could cause. For this reason I have appropriate insurance with public liability. I don’t legally have to have this, however I feel it is responsible 😊
