It's on my list after i learn python and have some experience in projects along the way when learning python. So when i would approach the Google Data analytics certification i would know partly or most of what they cover , and then i would have the certificate in my collection to showcase . I think that you should definitely make an video in which you explain for an complete Newb the correct order of the things you have to know math included in order to become an successful Data scientist. Like a list from A-Z this and that, how to approach things, in what fashion etc. It could be new series on your channel. " Beginners guide to Data Science " 💛

I just got this certificate yesterday. I would love to add my perspective to a video like this (hit me up if you plan on making a part 2). I actually got a data specialist job just before I started my capstone project, and talking about this certificate helped me in my interviews. I feel I learned a lot from the certificate and I agree with a lot of the comments from the participants of this video. About the R thing, since I knew python before the course, I was glad to learn something new. Probably I would’ve never looked at R otherwise but it grew on me.

I did my Google analytics training based on your (and many others) recommendation and I think you’re right that it will go with something else you have and not something you rely on solely. Definitely doing this won’t make you a DA just like passing a drivers license test will make you a low risk driver on the street. I myself taught myself many of the concepts including SQL through KZbin that gave me enough to breeze through the course though I didn’t learn R. Post getting the certificate, I am now doing a crash course on Coursera on Python just to see what the hype is all about to get me the edge as a business person.

I'm right now finishing the data science certificate from IBM. I don't really think the certificate alone will grant you a job but I think the certificate increases the chance to get an internship in data science, that will eventually lead to a job offer. Because when you take a certification, you learn the basics and stuff but skills liek working in data science teams or present your results in front of executives won't be taught in the course. So to get a data science job you need to combine technical skills from the certificate and practical skills from an internship or prior working experience

Hey Luke, Being a data analyst for the last 1.5 years, here are my thought on the video: - Pretty well-made video, that keeps people interested in what is coming next. - *R vs Python* : Agree, they should have chosen Python or provided an option to switch. - *Excel is less important* : Strongly disagree, I use Excel as much as SAS on a daily basis or more. - *Certification is useful for getting the Job* : No, but I would like to add it to my resume. *EDIT* : 2.3 Years now. Some Analysts do use R, and some say that it is really good for statistics and educational purposes. But I would still want Python to be included in courses/certifications for Data Analysts.

Hi Luke! Love the channel. I know this is a bit past the mark for this video, but wanted to throw my two cents in. I became a data analyst first, and am now in the process of rounding out the certs, degree, and general experience to build upon this career path I discovered and love! I am currently running through the Google Data Analytic certificate, and I agree a lot of the focus is ground level up, and some overlap on the basics that I already know. Having said that, it fills in a few knowledge gaps and makes that foundation even stronger. If someone in my situation has the time and ability to afford and take a cert like this, it gives a generally understood signal to employers or recruiters that those foundational ideas (spreadsheets, basic data analytics and project management concepts) are a known skill. There are far worse "unnecessary" certs to have, especially considering the overall quality and name recognition of a Google cert.

Not at least it gives you a view on the skills needed and also some additional knowledge that it not part of the course, to study on your own. Also noteworthy in my opinion is that there is a part about writing a resume and applying. Of course this is not the perfect interview or resume, but it grants a small view on what to expect. Great follow up video after posting your initial video on the certificate. I think the expectation by many was that this certificate would instantly land them a job, or it would be as if Google would have facilitated their consortium of companies to reach out to every course completer, which is not the case. Overall, it was a very clean presentation of material which other providers have delivered in a very mundane way but it wasn't about job placement and in my opinion, I think that the majority of people that have completed the program won't mind that. However, some may have thought otherwise. I say take this program with a grain of salt as I had and think of it as a simple grouping of some data analysis concepts. Therefore, it doesn't matter whether they taught in R vs. Python. Go out now and learn how to clean, process, analyze, and visualize in Python if you like. Build a portfolio. Update your resume. Job search. I think with or without Google we all have to do our own home work.

I'm about to switch career, and I completed entire Google Analytics Professional Certificate over the 4-month period from July to November 2021, this year. My impressions are that the course is worth of attending, and considering that I'm not 100% beginner the first three were not very useful for me, as well as spreadsheets taking into account that I'm quite experience Excel user but SQL, R-language and the capstone project were excellent. Also a minus about this entire course is I would like to see more practicing, an instructor to lead the students through entire process of data analysis by using at least couple of practical examples! Anyway definitively worth of attending and devoting time!

This was really great, thank you. I am taking the Google course then will follow up with the IBM as well. Luckily, Coursera is such an economical solution to pick up new skills that bring relevant knowledge without the price tag of official college credits - which are just not always necessary depending on the roles and industries you work. Additionally, I do think its great to think about the domain knowledge you can apply these new skills to - as opposed to expecting this cert to just get you a new job automatically. I think of the analyst as being a key storyteller in order to be impactful to executives and leaders making decisions. If you do not really understand the data you're attempting to speak to, you will never be seen as a credible advisor to any leadership. You really need to be able to understand the data you're looking at, what you'd like to learn from it, what's in it for the leaders you're giving insight to.

If it is equivalent to a 4 years degree then why people are finding difficult to get a job. They have showcased the value of this course like one can easily land a job of 60k-70k USD but after watching this video its like the reality is quiet different. I am personally a little disappointed after completing this course because the end goal is to land a good job in a big company
@goldengriffon3 жыл бұрын
Even people with a 4 year degree would find it hard to land a job in that salary range. Even college grads also need a portfolio, internship, or other display of real world competency to have a good chance of being hired. So I wouldn’t say they misrepresented the value of the course. They never said they’d be hiring people with just this certificate, only that they would see the certificate as a substitute for a 4 year degree.

My only reasoning for starting the course is that Coursers provides 1 free certification for the university students with an edu email. So I took advantage of the opportunity and enrolled myself… So far it’s been really good but for sure it is in no way enough for the job market but if it is offered for free…. Why not?

Hi, a student here. Is it possible for you to share the process of enrolling and receiving the certificate (after completion) for free?

@@efficienzayd6103 Hi! I started the course recently. Basically what you need to do is log in to Coursera using your .edu email id and link your University's email there. Here's the link which would be the exact steps that I followed: www.coursera.org/for-university-and-college-students After registration, search for the Google DA certificate and enroll using 1 credit for free. That's what I did. I haven't finished the course yet and therefore I haven't received the certificate but I will keep this comment thread updated when I receive a certificate. But honestly, I don't think anything is different from paid version vs registering for free.

Hey Luke, very grateful for the great discussion on this video! I have a three plus years of being a data analyst. The past a few jobs involved in product management, category management and business analysis in the retail industry (e-commerce). I taught myself in using Excel, Tableau, SQL and Python. How much I use each one of them is really depends on the stage of my study progress and the particular task I am working on. I am now in the 7-days free trial of the course of Google Data Analyst Professional Certificate. Still feel hesitate whether should I keep moving forward on this course. I feel it is more suitable for very starter in data analysis. How much do you recommend this course for people who has some experiences in DA like me. Thanks!

I don't think this course is for you. If you're not getting anything out of it in the first free 7 days, I'd switch to something else. This course is aimed at complete beginners. I'd instead take more advanced courses

Nice content. Overall, I feel that this program focused too heavily on quizzes and easy assignments. For example, the last capstone project course only required me to check a box stating that I have completed the case study. I wish it would be more practical like the UX design certificate they are having, where the learners get to complete 3 portfolio projects which are helpful for them.

okay so I have an answer...somewhat. I recently finished the google data analytics certificate and honestly... you need both a good portfolio and some relevant skills. Now having the certificate does help give a boost I actually just got a call from a possible a few days ago and went for an interview and said that he liked both my portfolio and my certifications the google data analytics being the main one, and after we finished the interview he said he was going to put my resume as a priority for his boss to look at. Hey Luke, so I’m extremely excited about starting the google certification course for data analysis but I’m not sure I’d be a qualified candidate. I don’t have a four year degree that most jobs on the LinkedIn website requires for the positions. I’m a barber by craft looking for a career change. All of the graduates that you interviewed seemed to have gone to college, so my question is how likely do you believe I’ll be at getting hired with just the certification being my only postsecondary education and a portfolio showing my skills.
@LukeBarousse3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I understand your concern completely. I think the biggest take aways from this are that you have to build up a portfolio and showcase some skills in a relevant field that you have some domain knowledge on. Using Wale's advice combined with building up your skills would put you in a good position to land a job. It's going to take some work, but I think it's accomplishable whether you have a degree or not.

Unfortunately, I disagree with Antonio's point. Excel and spreadsheets alike, have become so powerful that you can achieve mostly anything on them( like even playing Doom ). So, the day on day workload, in some jobs, depends on spreadsheets-> understanding the data, making automations and pipelines, creating visualisations quickly etc.

I happened to stumble across googles certificate course, I am not a technical person, But I'm willing to learn so I can work from home. So for me this video brought home the fact that its simple enough for a non technical person to use. though I'll need to advertise my other skills as well. I live an hour from my nearest community college and just to enroll costs me about 1,200$ to attend online classes!!! I'd rather try this first and if I decide I need more in-depth learning, I can either go to college again or find a paid training job!!! again Thank you!!

Replicating my work between R and Python as well.
