My interview was super easy Step one: go to police academy Step two: procrastinate for 8 months and get a job as loss prevention Step three: chance encounter with security officer at second job (because loss prevention part time doesn't cut it) Step four: email the company Step five: go to interview Step six: because the owner of the company is a very generous and nice man he basically just gave me the job because I presented myself professionally

@@joie8465 that’s any company, dude. You’re replaceable, some places are just nicer to you than others. I’d certainly say it’s better to be a robot that’s treated kindly, than to be a jobless shmuck with nothing going on. Security is usually easy work, and you hardly have to actually get physical or have shootouts like you see in the movies. Not every guard is a Paul Blart, but some of them certainly are.

As a college student who works security.......I'll say this......Look into working a flex position.....I work for a company on a Flex position (part time position, on an on-call basis, If somebody calls off on a prop. I go in to fill in) The flex position usually is fit around your hours but don't count on that......It pays fine & gives me the freedom to work two jobs

Joker on patrol ! Sadly, I had to point that very fact out to both the local Police and the company higher ups i guard. And I’m not even armed, I’m unarmed and some of what both parties have told me to do could very likely get me an assault charge... and both get just as irritable when I tell them I’m not a cop, I’m there as a visible deterrent and basically a first responder. I can’t manhandle someone just to get them out of the store, I can’t tell someone they are not allowed to speak, etc... I can call the cops, and the cops can do what they do. I mean security isn’t a complicated job, I’m there to make sure everyone is safe and protected. As per armed security that doesn’t really change, and I’d assume the rules of engagement for them would likely be the same as I had in Afghanistan while I was in the Marines, basically they had to shoot at me first before I could even think of shooting them. The gun is a tool that is just in case, one of those “pray I don’t have to use it, be ready if I do have to use it, and only use it when it is the only option left to me.”... but maybe I’m wrong about that.

I’ve been in the industry for over 23 years myself. I’ve worked the graveyard shifts and I’ve worked for contract security companies. Currently I own my own business and work part time at a local University/ Medical Center as a Public Safety Officer. For part time I’m making just over $37,000. We are also Union with sworn and noon sworn officers and some of us are armed. We are employed by the university. In my experience, in house agencies are the way to go for the most part.

I agree. I'm a US Army MP, four years. I've done armed & unarmed posts since 1993. I agree, a private or security dept-div is ideal. Private or public sector. Larger places or firms that use contract security tend to get a us vs them attitude. Or they set guards up for failure or avoid helping them because they are not "company employees". In a section or dept too, you can make transfers or get new careers within the same business.

So in the netherlands it is a bit diffrent. You first have to study for a bit, then pass a few tests. After that you can start working an internship and after that some more practical tests. There is a study that takes the students around 2 years full-time. Besides that you need to have a clean record and be a minimum of 18 years. The ministery of justice and security/safety has to approve uniforms for companys. There always has to be a V- symbol on the uniform.

I used to be a supervisor for a big industrial outfit, so this security work is too simple. I want this line of work to expect more of me. So, should I move around to better companies? If I stay with the company I'm with now, I I have a possibility to work a site and gain a security clearance but I don't know if it's even worth it. In 2019, the SFPD union & city groups complained so the special officers are now down to 10 or so, from 300. 🙄. Virginia has "special conservators of the peace". They have limited authority & carry weapons on post. Florida Mylicensesite.com has D-unarmed & G-armed . Guards by FS493 are NOT sworn law enforcement, 🚔👮🏽‍♂️🕵🏿‍♂️. G officers must re qualify once a year; 9mm, .40, .45acp, .380acp. Florida allows plain clothes EP or bodyguards but they must be approved by the client, post orders.

Maccabee Luke 22:36 Basically, you observe and report any suspicious activity -usually you will fill out a "daily log" where you write down what areas you patroled, where you stood your post. As far as detaining a criminal, if I actually see the person commiting a crime, I can detain him and call authorities. If I didn't see the crime, it's out of my hands.. I also cannot use my gun, OC, or baton to get someone to comply, I can only use those tools if I am in danger of imminent injury or death

Not much basically be smart about what you do, think before taking action and pick your battles. Don't be that security guard everybody knows and hate. Also expect to walk and stand ALOT.

I'd look at Handgunlaw.us . It's free & very handy. If you plan to do armed security, go ahead & get your CWP-CCW. If you live in a open carry state then learn the lethal force, weapon laws. ⚖. Dont get over whelmed but learn & understand the basics of the security, protective services industry. A military enlistment or working as a sworn LE officer even for 4-6yr will help. 👮🏻‍♀️🚓⚖. I'd add to buy & train with a few weapons is smart too. Take first aid & AED classes, stop the bleed, etc. 🚒🚑🏥.

Will companies feel insulted if I tell them that I'm in the hiring process with law enforcement and wanted to make some money in the mean time while still being related to my career choice? I currently work security for the college who knows I'm in the academy. In fact they specifically hire academy recruits. But I'm also in the hiring process with a law enforcement agency and I was thinking that if it takes longer than I thought I can work for another security job.

I'll say this from my limited knowledge. If the company lacks guards, they would hire you with a time you need to stay with them for. OR they might add that you will have to compensate for whatever they provided to you for free if you leave early. For companies who are looking to fill long-term positions and aren't taking in contracts constantly, they will mind if your schedule is not stable for them. In that case they won't hire you. So in my opinion, if you're just going to earn some money at the moment, you just have to find a large security company with many contracts and they probably expect many of their candidates to treat them as a bus stop in their career journey. Since the hiring process can take almost a year, you would probably be able to fulfill their minimum period which is probably just going to be 6 months. In fact, depending on the size of the company, if they are expanding too fast, they might even promote you before you get your police job (if they think you're an asset). Of course, you can still leave them even if you're promoted.
