Joker on patrol ! Sadly, I had to point that very fact out to both the local Police and the company higher ups i guard. And I’m not even armed, I’m unarmed and some of what both parties have told me to do could very likely get me an assault charge... and both get just as irritable when I tell them I’m not a cop, I’m there as a visible deterrent and basically a first responder. I can’t manhandle someone just to get them out of the store, I can’t tell someone they are not allowed to speak, etc... I can call the cops, and the cops can do what they do. I mean security isn’t a complicated job, I’m there to make sure everyone is safe and protected. As per armed security that doesn’t really change, and I’d assume the rules of engagement for them would likely be the same as I had in Afghanistan while I was in the Marines, basically they had to shoot at me first before I could even think of shooting them. The gun is a tool that is just in case, one of those “pray I don’t have to use it, be ready if I do have to use it, and only use it when it is the only option left to me.”... but maybe I’m wrong about that.

I agree. I'm a US Army MP, four years. I've done armed & unarmed posts since 1993. I agree, a private or security dept-div is ideal. Private or public sector. Larger places or firms that use contract security tend to get a us vs them attitude. Or they set guards up for failure or avoid helping them because they are not "company employees". In a section or dept too, you can make transfers or get new careers within the same business.

They have limited authority & carry weapons on post. Florida Mylicensesite.com has D-unarmed & G-armed . Guards by FS493 are NOT sworn law enforcement, 🚔👮🏽♂️🕵🏿♂️. As far as detaining a criminal, if I actually see the person commiting a crime, I can detain him and call authorities. If I didn't see the crime, it's out of my hands.. My ego & self esteem are not stressed over job titles 😁. I did have a ex cop, security mgr in the 1990s say; a "guard" is a security person in one place or only guarding one location. A security officer patrols, files reports, has multiple duties & works out of a office.

Will companies feel insulted if I tell them that I'm in the hiring process with law enforcement and wanted to make some money in the mean time while still being related to my career choice? I currently work security for the college who knows I'm in the academy. In fact they specifically hire academy recruits. But I'm also in the hiring process with a law enforcement agency and I was thinking that if it takes longer than I thought I can work for another security job.
@Viewer131287 жыл бұрын
I'll say this from my limited knowledge. If the company lacks guards, they would hire you with a time you need to stay with them for. OR they might add that you will have to compensate for whatever they provided to you for free if you leave early. For companies who are looking to fill long-term positions and aren't taking in contracts constantly, they will mind if your schedule is not stable for them. In that case they won't hire you. So in my opinion, if you're just going to earn some money at the moment, you just have to find a large security company with many contracts and they probably expect many of their candidates to treat them as a bus stop in their career journey. Since the hiring process can take almost a year, you would probably be able to fulfill their minimum period which is probably just going to be 6 months. In fact, depending on the size of the company, if they are expanding too fast, they might even promote you before you get your police job (if they think you're an asset). Of course, you can still leave them even if you're promoted.
