This is Danny Greenspoon. This performance is from the CBC radio show Swinging On A Star hosted by Murray McLauchlan. It aired in March of 1993. As Kit Johnson said before, it is technically not The Hip as it was me on electric guitar and Kit Johnson on bass along with Paul and Gord. Great memories.

thx for sharing that... i always wondered about this performance of get back again as the electric guitar style seemed different than bobbys and know i know why... you guys did a fantastic job, must be a real highlight to have been a part of such a special performance of this song that will live on forever

Thanks for the air date, but do you have any specifics on the CBC studio recording date, by any chance? Been trying to nail this down for a while...

@@andrewleccese2880 It was recorded on Jan. 12, 1993 at CBC Studio 4S in Toronto, and aired on March 13, 1993.

MatthewGoodRox I agree. My husbands favourite song, it makes me think of when we were first dating. He was diagnosed with a GBM tumour ( like Gord has) in 2014 and it has torn our life apart. Makes me think, what if I never met him and also, I'm so thankful I did.

Get Back Again: Gorgeous ballad written by Gord Sinclair, played often in 1990. It was eventually recorded for Road Apples, but never released. A fan favorite, it was brought back every once in a while, and even played live on the radio in 1992. Last played in Kingston in February, 1995. Among diehard Hip Heads, it remains the most requested of the unreleased material, and is perhaps the most deserving of a release.

During the Fully Completely tour, I saw the Hip live at Massey Hall. Chest pressed against the stage, I remember Gord clowning with some Groucho glasses that had been thrown onstage. I remember screaming "Get Back Again!" at the top of my lungs during every lull in the music... Later, at the first night of Another Roadside Attraction in Markham Fairgrounds, I hollered "Get Back Again" over and over, this time from about 30m from the stage. The next day, 2nd night of Roadside, When The Hip broke into Get Back Again, I swear, in my heart, they were playing it for me. I'll never forget singing and dancing to this song in the pit surrounded by thousands of revelling Hip fans. I just want to thank the band for that. For that moment. For that song. It's etched in my memory. Thanks Gord (the good Gord up above), Paul, Gord, Bobby and Johnny. Effing brilliant, guys.

My thoughts are that it's because Gord Downie didn't write the lyrics. Gord Sinclair wrote the song. Maybe he wanted to hang on to it for a solo project. Who knows.
@sincman4 жыл бұрын
Rob Baker told a story once about why. When they were recording it for Up to here I believe they had one perfect take and looked at each other knowing they were nailing it and this was the one that would make it on the album. When they were done their sound engineer maybe, whoever was in charge of recording said " Okay play it again just like that and we're going to record it this time" . They never could get it just right again so it never made it on an album.

He don't even know my name Didn't know he'd be back Didn't know he'd be mad No one stayed to share the blame I didn't mean to do that She won't even come around Every time I look back Didn't realize that I was better off than now Mothers came and cried for Abel Brother Cain survived the century's end All the time that I thought was my friend Be all right till we get back again Heaven knows you are right (and they will never drag you down) And they will never drag you down (there ain't time to lose sight) There ain't time to lose sight Getting lost in the light Is more than never being found Mothers came and cried for Abel Brother Cain survived the century's end All the time that I thought was my friend Be all right till we get back again I never could go back (and I could never leave my home) And I could never leave my home (and why'd they change a face like that?) And why'd they change a face like that? If I'd never seen ya I could always dream that I'd be better off alone Mothers came and cried for Abel Brother Cain survived the century's end All the time that I thought was my friend Be all right till we get back again Be all right till we get back again Be all right till we get back again
