I will always be grateful to Peter Jackson for having corrected this long-standing perpetuated myth that this was one of the darkest episodes of the Beatles legacy. Instead, it a glorious story of redemption by 4 truly remarkably talented men who genuinely loved each other. Jackson let the movie speak for itself and what you witness is an unsurmountable pressure they put upon themselves, and yet they emerged with some of the greatest songs ever created. The movie truly humanizes them and shows the staggering amount of work put into creating their magic. Along the way you get to know John, Paul, George and Ringo like never before as 4 completely natural and genuinely nice people. My respect for them only grew from this movie. I’m sadden that this has been hidden for this long and we have lost so many of them - Linda, Maureen, Billy, George Martin, Mal Evans and of course George and John. Thank you Peter for doing this.
@sup95423 жыл бұрын
It was their darkest time but even their darkness was still very light. I'm only halfway through but I get it now. They needed John to be leader and Brian Epstein to be the disciplinarian. Paul needed to just be the GOAT that he is - he didn't have the personality to be their leader or boss. He talked too much and didn't listen. He was trying to instill discipline in them but came off too controlling. When John was full of energy, things worked out great. When John pulled away and let Yoko do the talking, things fell apart. Because sometimes he wanted it to fall apart. But when they moved to a smaller space and George brought Billy in, John's energy came out full force and he led them once again.

The gesture of Yoko unwrapping the gum for John is so touching. Firstly because Ringo gave it to her, and she immediately split it in two, all her movements seem so instinctual. The way she doesn't distract John from his conversation with Paul when she knows he doesn't see the gum, instead she just puts it in his hand. Very sweet to me.
@jlr0221593 жыл бұрын
It reminded me of my mother… she always chewed 1/2 stick of gum and even as a kid that always puzzled me so much! Lol… I was like, mom how can anyone chew 1/2 stick… then I see Yoko tearing a stick in half! Wow did that bring back memories!
@ricopaulson13 жыл бұрын
Definitely different than the common narrative that Yoko was a drag and a distraction in the studio. It's apparent she was there because John wanted her to be. It caused some stress for sure when it started in 1968, but by this time they all seem used to it. She did not want to interrupt John's convo, as he was working so she put it in his hand. Far cry of what the uneducated say about Yoko being a divisive figure. As Paul said, "No one woman, nor one man, could break up the Beatles". The Beatles broke up the Beatles. It was inevitable.

We are privileged to live in an era where the technology existed, and was saved, for us to see the modern day versions of the Beethoven's, the Mozart's, the Greig's etc. doing and saying and thinking exactly the way they really did. Thank goodness this stuff was recorded and saved, and now made available. The astonishing thing is that they were as good as their records.....they really were THAT good. Remember....they didn't just play it and sing it....they imagined it and made their imagination come alive. THAT is the genius...and we must, when remembering, remember George Martin was very much a part of that. Popular music was played, nationwide, on "Top-40" (or Top-30) AM radio stations, and in my city, there were often multiple Beatle's songs in the top-10, played repeatedly, day-and-night. Each new album release was a huge event. No one was bigger than The Beatles.Then, in the later-'60s, "Sgt. Pepper," The White Album, and "Abbey Road" were all phenomenal in their impact, with much more complex productions.
