Acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson has released an exclusive sneak peek of his upcoming documentary “The Beatles: Get Back” for fans everywhere to enjoy. The 5-minute special look is available to fans worldwide on TheBeatles.com and streaming on Disney+.
Jackson said, “We wanted to give the fans of The Beatles all over the world a holiday treat, so we put together this five-minute sneak peek at our upcoming theatrical film ‘The Beatles: Get Back.’ We hope it will bring a smile to everyone’s faces and some much-needed joy at this difficult time.”
Acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson’s “The Beatles: Get Back” is a unique cinematic experience that takes audiences back in time to The Beatles’ intimate recording sessions during a pivotal moment in music history. The film showcases the warmth, camaraderie and creative genius that defined the legacy of the iconic foursome. Shot in January 1969 and compiled from over 60 hours of unseen footage (filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg) and more than 150 hours of unheard audio, all of which has been brilliantly restored, “The Beatles: Get Back” is the story of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr as they plan their first live show in over two years and charts the writing and rehearsing of 14 new songs, originally intended for release on an accompanying live album. The film features - for the first time in its entirety - The Beatles' last live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert on London’s Savile Row as well as other songs and classic compositions featured on the band’s final two albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.

What struck me the most were the smiles and feelings of joy as they created their music. The Let It Be album has been usually associated with arguments, egos and clashes. Instead, I saw smiles, laughing and good times. Can't wait for the movie! Thank you Peter Jackson and staff.

When the movie Let It Be that was released to theaters, my friends and I walked out because it was such a downer with all the arguing and the glum faces. It just was not a fun movie. I thought I've seen everything by and about the Beatles, including the Let it Be film when it was first in theaters. This blows it all out of the water and looks like it gives a completely unprecedented amd intimate look at the Beatles having fun in the studio. It captures a whole different spirit than the Let it Be film did. And the picture and audio quality are like nothing ever seen before with the Beatles. A real triumph by Peter Jackson! I hope this introduces the band to a whole new audience. This passes the audition!

What makes me happy, but also brings tears to my eyes, is the fact that they were, all four of them, really happy! I know the original stuff was all dark and gloomy in places, but that’s life too. The trailer conveys just how much love these four had for each other. They may have had a bitter split and spent decades in legal, financial and copyright battles, but in the end they loved each other unconditionally. I'm not an anti-Yoko person in particular, but...man...I've been in a lot of bands. It's truly odd to have to have her sitting sort of IN the circle of players. In the room? Sure. Right next to everyone's ankles? Too much.

Yay!! (I've seen so many bootlegs..You can find unedited hours and hours of sound from this project...it's really interesting to hear them talk about camera lenses, and gardens, and then do another rehearsal of a song, and hear it change and evolve in real time....On the other hand it will be great to see this stuff in HD, and turned into a story. More than that - the power of editing! What was portrayed in the original film as fraught and tense, will now seen through an optimistic lens. The unedited tapes of course show what it really was...a lot of waiting around and chit chat. Interspersed with them creating something, in real time. Which, to me, is the most interesting of all..

The GET BACK film did what the LET IT BE movie failed to do. An incredible 8 hour documentary instead of a boring and confusing 90 minute film. i never did understand the plot of Let It Be. Too much important film was left out of the movie.

To be fair the original was too grainy when it was blown up to 35 for cinema release. The original idea was that it would be for TV, hence the 16mm

Thank you. I really needed that 5 minutes of Beatles joy after this year. The Let It Be sessions have always been "reported" as a nasty and argumentative. There was clearly joy and friendship amongst a band of brothers after so many years. There may have been tension but when they played together they still were happy.

Notice at the mark between 3:28 and 3:31, that Ringo is seen working a consumer-grade Sony video camera, presumably shooting what must be b&w home video footage of the sessions. My curiosity is aroused to wondering whether or not that footage, if there is any, actually survived and will be included as part of the new documentary. I guess we shall wait with baited breath over the next 8 long, agonizing months (until its projected theatrical release) to find out. Even better would be if it's included as an extra on the DVD or Blu-Ray release apart from the main documentary. And, of course, I'm also hoping (as are all us Beatlephiles) that they'll make good with their promise to release the original theatrical version of the Micheal Lindsey-Hogg film, just for history's sake if nothing else. In the meantime, I'm on like my half-dozenth viewing of this sneak peek so far. And it puts a smile upon my face every. bloody, time!
