i tried the seeds and they germinated. you should put wet paper towel on a plate, sprinkle on it the seeds and put it in a ziplock bag in the fridge for 30-40 days. they germinate and than you put one to one cup on the sunny window inside the house.

Great video, thank you, made me laugh & that was so needed, smiles... My Caregiver bought me a big bottle of Cassia Cinnamon, which I never eat as it's not good for us to consume, as I only use "Ceylon cinnamon", no big deal as I can still use the Cassia cinnamon for rooting my plants & getting a rid of any nasty pests... As a single application of cinnamon to the stem when you plant the cutting will stimulate root growth in almost every plant variety. Give your cuttings a quick start with the help of cinnamon powder. Cinnamon is also great for pest control in your plants homemade spray bottle of DIY water or else we can sprinkle dry cinnamon where the trail of ants coming in our houses as well... You can also use honey as a rooting hormone agent, as why buy when we have in our cupboards & these days it's not so easy going to the stores with the Coronavirus... Links below for the Cinnamon use & 7 hacks to use, IF desired... 😘 🌹🌈💞🎵🌷🌺🌸😆👏👍💫🌟💛 ☘️ Here's a couple links that will give you more ideas as well... Hi. I am subscribing now as I loved Alan's presentation very much. 💛 A question though. Can I grow lavender outdoors where we have minus degrees up to -20°C?
@hmh38086 жыл бұрын
Zerrin Ekinci I live in Ontario Canada w up to -30c winters and have found once established, my lavender survives zone 4b temps. I bring any late yr. cuttings into the garage to overwinter because without root systems they won't make it on their own and will freeze... you can keep potted lavender going through the winter inside the house but I found they don't do as well as establishing in the garden and insulating with some leaf mulch before the snow....also some varieties do better in cooler climates-u can google. 'Hidcote' has survived 8 winters for me... do your cuttings in spring (and mid summer after blooming )so they have time to develop their own root systems then you can plant before frost and mulch or cover with an upside down large plastic plant pot till spring...

Hello there! Last year I followed your instructions and now I'll soon have some baby Lavenders to plant up for my hedge :-) Can you now advise me as to what I can plant up between them to break up the space while their growing? Many thanks x
@GetgardeningnowUk13 жыл бұрын
Sorry for being slow to reply!! It's a nice idea to do this as the lavender will take a few years to get to the desired height and spread. You do however want to be careful that what you plant doesn't compete. You could add some Thyme - they would be great groundcover and would appreciate the same conditions plus they are great for pollinators. You could intersperse with seasonal plantings of Ivy Leaf Pelargonium or Surfinia Petunias or could sow Calendula or Larkspur for some seasonal colour. All these things will add some real interest and most importantly won't compete and hold the lavender back. Good luck! 💚

Hi Alice! Lavender is a mediterranean plant so doesn't want to be too moist, but equally they don't want to dry out! Use a rose on your watering can so you don't drench them and stick your finger into the top of the pot in between waterings to check if they're dry and whether they need another going over with the watering can! Hope that helps! :)

Hello I have just seen this video. I have french lavender which is still in flower. Could I take cuttings now at the beginning of September please? Thank you Natalie 😀
@GetgardeningnowUk14 жыл бұрын
Hey! You should be ok. French lavender does best as a heel, so pull it away from the main stem with a little bit of bark...use a bit of rooting powder or gel and don't keep them too wet. And where normally you may cover cuttings with a bag, they'll probably do best just misted. Good luck! :)

Have never had a problem w taking cuttings from an old plant, and actually the new bushes that were created from my 8 yr. old Hidcote provided the strongest and healthiest offspring....cuttings from a 2 yr. old bush were weaker and not as successful so just wanted to share w readers that that rule didn't hold true for me in Ontario. We have very cold winters and a short summer growing season as well, not exactly a Mediterranean climate! Don't know why I've always had success w lavender varieties in zone 4b but perhaps it is the sandy soil in My area!
