I'm surprised there is no water container or a protein bar. I also suggest a small pair of nail clipper, tweezers and a pin for splinters or a broken nail. Extra shoe laces. Mini eye glass repair kit or a second set. (Long walk home half blind). A micro fiber cloth. And depending on the season, hand warmers or sunscreen.

Great video Lilly... Some things you might want to consider. A whistle. A whistle is great, even for urban use. If you get trapped in a building or elsewhere for instance. Less energy is used with a whistle and the sound travels further. A plastic whistle and the weight is neglible. A plastic door wedge. If in a room, whether it has a lock or not, a door wedge secures the door ten fold! Nobody is coming through that doir unless they break it down. Hotel rooms for extra security. Public toilets. A disused building.. A door wedge again, hardly any weight.. Thanks Lilly.. Keep up the good work..

Speed and improvisation > a metric ton of gear. The point of a GHB is movement...to get home. So ditch the superfluous gear...ounces equal pounds, and pounds equal pain. The sillcock key is better left in your car or at home (unless you’re planning on hoofing it 50K to get home). Ditch the extra flashlight. Chances are that you’re not going to be rappelling so you probably won’t need that biner. Focus on calorie dense foods and water that will get you the energy you will need to move quickly.

I've had a bug-home bag for years that I take with me when I have to visit the small city that I live near. I live in a rural area. My main concern is if I can't drive home, for any reason, I'm more set up to get out of the city on foot, escape the urban environment, then go overland to home. So, map and compass is important, although I know the area well. I carry enough food to last me two days, and some water. As I live where firearms are legal to be carried, I take extra ammo, which is heavy, but I can also "dump" the extra weight if mobility becomes more important. Then of course, first aid, multi tool, stuff like that. Fire of course. I also keep a warm wool hat and some light but high-tech thermal underwear, and warm gloves of course. Some over-the-counter meds are important, both for myself, or to share. My bag is much bigger than yours, but that does not mean I have to fill it up. !!! But yeah, the temptation is there.

add a condom; holds a liter of water, weighs nothing. And, having been stuck homeless in an urban environment in bad weather once, i would add to or replace the poncho with a simple mylar emergency 'tent'. Personally, i love Reallybigmonkey1's ranger roll sleep system; it can fold up rather than roll up and fit into most backpacks. Wind, wet and cold, urban or nature, i don't see a big difference. That one time i tried to sleep outside without a tent and found out the next morning that there was a nice busstop just a klik down the road... I couldn't know at night; still coulda slept a lot better if i just woulda had some kinda tent. Since then i never leave home without a tent (or a mosquito net in hot climates).

After watching this, I realize that I rarely go out very far... and that I'm horrible in terms of prepping, given that I only have 1 functioning charging cable for my phone in the whole house... :) Btw I higly recommend against leaving your money in your bag. Never underestimate how easy it is for a skilled thief to pickpocket you. It is much better to carry it in your jacket or your pockets ( that's why I generally wear pants with large pockets). That way, it is much closer to you and easier to feel if it is gone.

I hate to burst people's bubble, but if there's ever a scenario where you need a get home bag, you're not likely to make it home if you live in a big city. The amount of confusion and crime would be beyond most people's wildest imagination. It's never a bad idea to be prepared, bugging out is much more likely a realistic idea than getting home in a large urban area. Not that people shouldn't try, giving up is never an option but being aware of situations and getting out early is a much better plan.

Cities my be smokey, violent, and or filled with tear gas. Glad you have the masks. Would you consider adding goggles. A bump cap to protect the skull from falling or thrown objects, And they are being made to look like baseball caps, it doesn't have to look like a hard hat. Bump cap liners can even be worn under winter knit hats. If you don't usually work or have on sturdy shoes that will get you home, have a pair that are already broken in and spare socks in the car. Three wallets, a bit of cash in each. Because sometimes just giving up a wallet can save you a lot of trouble. So, you have a pack, next, some weekend see how far you can carry that pack in 24 hours. Can you average one mile an hour? That gets you 24 miles, for most people that's a long hard march. Younger sturdier people can do it in 10 hours. Really healthy ones can do it without the pack in three hours, just grabbing a quick water on the way by. IF you need to be on foot chances are a lot of people will be in the same condition and will by trying to use cell phones. The system will overload, most calls won't get through. The system is not made that robust. If you do get through, please keep the call short, as others are waiting to use the cell phone system.

I thought I was the only one to carry an emergency lockpick kit. 💪😉👍

Be careful with those, check your local laws. I got busted with a set in my go bag. I was charged with possession burglary tools/paraphernalia.

@@FrenziedTanates in France, it's ok, you can carry tools, only the behavior counts

Well thought out. Of course kits are going to vary based on environment. Good starting point with your kit.

I wonder if Lilly took any time to pick up any of the garbage on the ground and dispose of it or did she just leave it to blow into the creek?

Thank you for all that information. I have a backpack with most of those items for my car. Including the physical maps, is a great idea! We forget how reliant we are on technology. Extra things I have in my car bag are a two litre bottle of water and a fire extinguisher. Batteries and water get replace periodically, as well as making sure the fire extinguisher is in date.

My 'version' of this is an Australian pack that's about 35 liters, the Platatac All Theatre. I love it, though it's in khaki which isn't my choice of color.

There is never an advantage to carrying a bag that looks tactical. Step 1. Don't advertise.

Do you find yourself getting extra “attention” because of the tactical look of the bag?
