I'm surprised there is no water container or a protein bar. I also suggest a small pair of nail clipper, tweezers and a pin for splinters or a broken nail. Extra shoe laces. Mini eye glass repair kit or a second set. (Long walk home half blind). A micro fiber cloth. And depending on the season, hand warmers or sunscreen.

Great video Lilly... Some things you might want to consider. A whistle. A whistle is great, even for urban use. If you get trapped in a building or elsewhere for instance. Less energy is used with a whistle and the sound travels further. A plastic whistle and the weight is neglible. A plastic door wedge. If in a room, whether it has a lock or not, a door wedge secures the door ten fold! Nobody is coming through that doir unless they break it down. Hotel rooms for extra security. Public toilets. A disused building.. A door wedge again, hardly any weight.. Thanks Lilly.. Keep up the good work..

Speed and improvisation > a metric ton of gear. The point of a GHB is movement...to get home. So ditch the superfluous gear...ounces equal pounds, and pounds equal pain. The sillcock key is better left in your car or at home (unless you’re planning on hoofing it 50K to get home). Ditch the extra flashlight. Chances are that you’re not going to be rappelling so you probably won’t need that biner. Focus on calorie dense foods and water that will get you the energy you will need to move quickly.

I've had a bug-home bag for years that I take with me when I have to visit the small city that I live near. I live in a rural area. My main concern is if I can't drive home, for any reason, I'm more set up to get out of the city on foot, escape the urban environment, then go overland to home. So, map and compass is important, although I know the area well. I carry enough food to last me two days, and some water. As I live where firearms are legal to be carried, I take extra ammo, which is heavy, but I can also "dump" the extra weight if mobility becomes more important. Then of course, first aid, multi tool, stuff like that. Fire of course. I also keep a warm wool hat and some light but high-tech thermal underwear, and warm gloves of course. Some over-the-counter meds are important, both for myself, or to share. My bag is much bigger than yours, but that does not mean I have to fill it up. !!! But yeah, the temptation is there.

I don't have a dedicated G.H.B. as my environment varies. I pack one with items I may need for the environment, before leaving my home. What I do keep (in my purse) at all times is a lighter. Knife, leatherman multi-tool, flashlight, some duct tape, multi use trauma dressing and some bandaids. What I have in my car at all times are a trauma kit and medications, blankets, gloves, OC spray, N95 masks and extra kleenex. On long trips I carry a more comprehensive kit in a backpack.

I think it really depends on how far away from your house you venture. The farther away from your house you are, the more likely you are to encounter roadblocks. I venture no further than 50 min walking distance, so for me it's worth the risk to have a small EDC bag to get me home to my larger bug out bag. Your mileage may vary

add a condom; holds a liter of water, weighs nothing. And, having been stuck homeless in an urban environment in bad weather once, i would add to or replace the poncho with a simple mylar emergency 'tent'. Personally, i love Reallybigmonkey1's ranger roll sleep system; it can fold up rather than roll up and fit into most backpacks. Wind, wet and cold, urban or nature, i don't see a big difference. That one time i tried to sleep outside without a tent and found out the next morning that there was a nice busstop just a klik down the road... I couldn't know at night; still coulda slept a lot better if i just woulda had some kinda tent. Since then i never leave home without a tent (or a mosquito net in hot climates).

I have First aid kit (with emergency blanket), self defence flashlight, a knife, all-in-one utensils, a pen (that's also suitable for breaking glass), a small container with a needle, threads, fishing line, a few nuts, bolts, washers, nails, a tool card, paracord, survival bracelet, two hooks, a whistle, tissues, hand sanitizers, gloves, fire steel, small pliers, seals, protection glasses, a spare mask and all that so organised that it doesn't take much space at all (about 15% of the backpack capacity). Then in another compartment I have all personal hygiene stuff. And Isolated I carry mosquito repelent and sunscreen. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! We might never be "ready" for emergency situations, but we won't be adrift. If we try to stay cool, we might have a little advantage. After watching this, I realize that I rarely go out very far... and that I'm horrible in terms of prepping, given that I only have 1 functioning charging cable for my phone in the whole house... :) Btw I higly recommend against leaving your money in your bag. Never underestimate how easy it is for a skilled thief to pickpocket you. It is much better to carry it in your jacket or your pockets ( that's why I generally wear pants with large pockets). That way, it is much closer to you and easier to feel if it is gone.

I hate to burst people's bubble, but if there's ever a scenario where you need a get home bag, you're not likely to make it home if you live in a big city. The amount of confusion and crime would be beyond most people's wildest imagination. It's never a bad idea to be prepared, bugging out is much more likely a realistic idea than getting home in a large urban area. Not that people shouldn't try, giving up is never an option but being aware of situations and getting out early is a much better plan.

Cities my be smokey, violent, and or filled with tear gas. Glad you have the masks. Would you consider adding goggles. A bump cap to protect the skull from falling or thrown objects, And they are being made to look like baseball caps, it doesn't have to look like a hard hat. Bump cap liners can even be worn under winter knit hats. If you don't usually work or have on sturdy shoes that will get you home, have a pair that are already broken in and spare socks in the car. Three wallets, a bit of cash in each. Because sometimes just giving up a wallet can save you a lot of trouble. So, you have a pack, next, some weekend see how far you can carry that pack in 24 hours. Can you average one mile an hour? That gets you 24 miles, for most people that's a long hard march. Younger sturdier people can do it in 10 hours. Really healthy ones can do it without the pack in three hours, just grabbing a quick water on the way by. IF you need to be on foot chances are a lot of people will be in the same condition and will by trying to use cell phones. The system will overload, most calls won't get through. The system is not made that robust. If you do get through, please keep the call short, as others are waiting to use the cell phone system.

I like the idea of a get home bag. Too many people have delusions of taking off into their magic world of survival land and rebuilding modern society in a cabin somewhere. Biggest likelyhood is some disaster happening while you're travelling. I just feel bad for ppl in areas who can't carry firearms, nature tends to come back in very quickly when infrastructure is down.

Just curious, are collapsible batons legal in Austria? I keep one for self defense. Collapsible batons are non-lethal, impact self defense tools. It extends to 20-inches or 50.8-cm. Just 7¾-inches or 19.8cm when collapsed for carry. Easily fits into a pocket when collapsed. Causes a lot of pain on an attacker.

Agreed and they are effective even the auto baton is used by certain factions of law enforcement.

@@BelmontClan Never heard of an auto baton. Mine is a three sectional baton that you manually swing in an arc to extend the baton. Does an auto baton extend by pushing a button? I've seen types that have a flexible spring instead of hard steel sections. I don't care for that type. Never had to defend myself with one. Did present the baton during a potential confrontation. The guy saw the extended baton and just walked away, very quickly.

@@whomagoose6897 yea a pressure switch with a safety catch on it, they are good against flesh and blood but don’t try and take on a concrete block, a guy at the army navy store advised me of that and showed me one that a customer tried to swing as one and demanded a refund. That was 2001, but it requires a hard surface to collapse it back again like a hard floor or a brick wall. I’ve seen the one with the spring on them, avoid them they are garbage.

Great gear choices my only concern is the tactical bag makes you stand out regardless of colour of the bag...i witnessed this with my own eyes today at the international airshow! People with tactical bags stood out very noticeably! Something less tactical may be better.

Thank you for all that information. I have a backpack with most of those items for my car. Including the physical maps, is a great idea! We forget how reliant we are on technology. Extra things I have in my car bag are a two litre bottle of water and a fire extinguisher. Batteries and water get replace periodically, as well as making sure the fire extinguisher is in date.
