Get into Downwinding series # 2 Your first downwinder / Vblog

Watched the two SUPboarder downwinding videos and got out on the water this afternoon for my first attempt at downwinding. It was absolutely brilliant!! With a 21 knot westerly and some great little waves I had a whale of a time crossing the 'Hoornse Hop' in Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. I did manage to fall in 4 times and my iPhone hasn't survived the experience (leaky cover) but I'm hooked. I don't think the Red Paddle Co. Voyager 12'6" board is the best board for downwinding but that doesn't spoil the fun atall! Thanks for the info an motivation to get out in the wind, Reuben!

You call it wind, here this is already called stormy. :) But its fun, got accelerated to 10km/h around Bft 8, not paddling at all. Also was able to steer the board by holding the paddle out to the left or right into the wind and moving myself front or back on the board, like in wind surfing, small effect but still noticeable.

Really good video.. I'm just getting into downwinding and find this to be brilliant infotainment.. How about the Gorilla tape? What is it for? Can't find it in any of your other posts..

SUPboarder Yes. Would be great to know about the gorilla tape trick. Also, the extra leash, how does it help? If your leash breakes, the board flies away most probably anyway.
