My Dad grew many orchids. When they were in bloom he would display them around the house so they would get lower light. Then when the flowers were gone he would keep them in a bright window. Once a week he would set them in a sink and let water run through the pot.

How long should orchids typically flower? I can't get mine to flower for very long (maybe a month) before the 1 or 2 flowers fall off and new ones don't grow. Hoping to revive mine! I referenced your repotting video, they're in miracle grow orchid bark (that's all we had on hand), using your watering method now, supported with a makeshift orchid clip. I think the issue now might be too low of light...I never thought of cycling the orchid or putting it outside in the summer! I will try that this upcoming season. Can you show us where you put your orchids outside and do pests ever visit them?

Phals need cooler DAYTIME temps it has nothing to do with nighttime temps. It gets cooler every night the difference is the cooler than average DAYTIME temps in the fall.

I read somewhere that orchid flowers last longer if you keep them out of sunlight once they're in bloom. I keep my orchids in a south window with a sheer curtain. When I get flowers I move the plant to a room with north light and far from the window. This seems to work--I've had flowers last six months, but maybe it was just chance. Can you confirm if this is accurate information?

Most flowers last longer if kept cool - which is what you are doing.

Phals come from the tropics. PA does not get hotter than that.
