Hi I'm fairly new to the pocket 2 and initially bought a set of standard ND filters but I found them to be a bit fiddly and soon got tired of switching out filters every 5-minutes to suit the varying lighting conditions so I purchased a pair of variable ND filters and these have proved to be really good. As they were only an experiment I didn't buy the most expensive I simply bought a reasonable brand and they've worked out fine. I no longer have to fiddle around changing the filters - all I have to do is rotate the bezel on the outer edge of the filter until my exposure value comes down to something close to what's required. Because I'm in the UK I shoot in 25 frames per second and always try to stick to a 50th of a second shutter speed but I'm coming round to thinking now that I might start filming in 50 frames per second at 100th shutter in order to be able to use the slow motion that you outlined so well in this video. After watching one of your previous videos I've also just invested in a z-axis stabilizer as I'm not exactly nimble these days and I need all the help I can get with smooth video! This has yet to be delivered and is on its way from Australia as we speak. Thanks for your very informative videos I've just subscribed 🙂

I have a question. I'm seriously thinking of getting this. I'm a videographer, and do a bit of weddings. I was thinking of using this for outdoor ceremonies only and no this wouldn't be my only camera. I would use for the entrances and center cam during the ceremony. I do already use my Panasonic G9 on a gimbal works great, but auto focus isn't great it's not bad if you do what I do and use a prime lens, but with this I could actually do a small zoom in to change that center shot during the ceremony IE ring exchange, vows and maybe kiss. Good list. More mistakes - using FPV mode for no real reason, leading to crooked horizons - putting the camera into the supplied case with the power button facing outwards so it gets turned on accidentally - setting the gimbal speed too high so pans get too abrupt - putting background music on videos where the original sound would have added interest and immersion - treating the camera as if it's a gopro instead of the quite delicate thing that it is - not checking and rechecking that you've not dropped the wide angle lens...
@DavidDavies3 жыл бұрын
Ha, thanks Peter, that is a good list. I actually had the Go Pro and the wide angle issue, actually ND filter instead of wide angle for me. The FPV mode is funny, I don't use that mode much. The power button is a good one, so frustrating!

Frames per second is definitely a personal choice. I tend to shoot at 24 fps with my Osmo Action too. But, shooting at both 24 fps and 60 fps seems like an odd choice. Have you tried shooting at 48 fps instead of 60 fps? It's far easier to process halving or doubling speed. 30 and 60 fps or 24 and 48 fps is the diggity. I am still considering a Pocket 2, so thanks for your perspective.
@DavidDavies3 жыл бұрын
You make a good point, I have never tried shooting in 48 fps. For my KZbin channel and my personal videos I mostly shooting in 24 fps but for my professional work, especially broadcast work they want everything to be 30 fps (29.97 fps) so I normally shoot to those formats. I will have to try 48 fps and see the results. Thanks

I have just got the pocket 2. Biggest mistake I make is looking at the camera itself like you would a normal action cam and NOT looking at the screen to see what you are actually recording. Guess I've just got to get used to the gimbal, never used one before. I've messed up nearly all my videos so far by doing this. There is definitely an art in using this camera, I'll get there in the end.
@DavidDavies2 жыл бұрын
Don't feel bad about not looking at the lens, it took me a long time to stop looking at the screen. Now I always look at the lens and sometimes I just glance down at the screen to make sure I am centred.
@Orcification2 жыл бұрын
@@Tensentities Yea I guess we are. I suppose it depends on what you use it for and what works best for you. I was using a "Normal" action camera before and so the gimble was a challenge. I was looking at the camera body and it turned out on looking at the recording that I had not recorded exactly what I wanted. With a normal camera you can basically point it in the direction you want and record, any fast camera movement translates to a fast camera movement, with this camera the gimble slows things down so there is a disconnect, a sort of lag to where the actual camera body is and where the lens is recording. Great for slow B roll shots though. It's a bit hard to explain until you actually use one. Once you get used to it, it's OK.

One mistake I made was to put a tempered glass sheild on the lens (ther are great on the touch screen) when you put them on the lens it not only prevents a good connection for magnetic ND filters, but the few mm's difference makes it almost impossible to make those lenses click in and be secure.

Just got a Pocket 2 about 5 days ago and just love it! One thing I've noticed, though: so far I've been shooting everything in 4K, 60 fps, and uploaded the video to KZbin. Problem: sometimes it uploads 4K videos in 4K, other times it uploads in only 1080P - ALL 4K videos, too. Any idea why?
@DavidDavies2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the camera, I hope you enjoy it. I also shoot in 4k. If you are taking those 4k clips and uploading them directly to KZbin then it's probably KZbin taking your 4k video and down converting them to 1080p. I do know when I upload videos, especially to my other YT channel, The Lazy Camper KZbin channel it does take some time for KZbin to create the 4k version. KZbin will start with the smaller versions then work on making the 4k versions. A few times on that channel, it has taken over a day to make the 4k version. Good luck.

Ya the video quality will not be as good indoors as it would be outdoors. It has a smaller sensor so it need plenty of light to give you a good image. Most cameras are like this. Enjoyed the video, Dave. I just became aware of the Pocket 2 and trying to decide if I should spring for it. The idea of having such a compact gimbal with the camera built in really appeals to me. It was actually sent to me when I bought a few camera accessories. It actually is not that good, but I see your point about the buttons in the middle. I will try to find out exactly which phone holder it is if you like.

Hello, I just picked up my Osmo Pocket 2 and your videos have help me a lot, thank you so much for your content, Keep it going on. Have you noticed that with the phone plugged in and slow motion selected you can’t change it to 240 FPS? Have a great weekend, Cheers from Chile 🇨🇱

Thanks Victor. Good luck with the camera. I don't really use it much with the phone attached so I never noticed the 240 fps issue. I'll have to look into it.

can i use same ND FILTER "GetZget® Lens Filters Combo for DJI Osmo Pocket" for both osmo pocket 2 and mini 3 drone?

Does it have a 3.5m port for an external mic (like the Rode Go?)

Which little case with the loop do you use for the camera?
@DavidDavies3 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about my leather case? It's from mega gear, it fits the original Osmo pocket really well and it's a bit tight on the Pocket 2.

Excellent tips! Thank you. About the ND filters, I stopped using them and auto gives me a better recording experience. The pocket 2 is a great little beast!

I was wondering about this. I bought an N32 but am worried I'll use it at the wrong time or not enough etc. Would I be better off just skipping it all together?

@@BlackJackzOO without a doubt Nd filters make your footage more smooth and cinematic if you’re going after that look and will give you more flexibility when you use manual settings. However, you have to be mindful where you’re pointing the camera each time you record because the moment you point away it will be a different exposure and you will need to tweak the settings again or change the filter. This is great when you have the time to do so. In my case, I’m happy with the auto settings. One thing you have to think about is how you use the pocket. Filters work best if you attach your pocket to your phone because you have a bigger view of what’s happening with your exposure. If you are not using a phone it’s harder with the little screen. My eyes are getting old so that doesn’t help. Lol. You can also use wifi to monitor your recording but again it all depends on you. Hope this helps.

That's interesting Tim, I have always said I have been impressed with the Osmo Pocket, now Pocket 2, straight out of the box with no accessories. Personally I am just used to using the ND filters from my time using my professional cameras.

@@timgalletas3856 Thanks for the tips Tim. Another thing about the filters is that it takes me out of the moment. I can't just grab and record. Do you use the Cinelike D setting? I have heard different things about it being better for post production. Also, I can't seem to figure out if it's possible to lock exposure without using the app?
