Thank You so much for creating this video!!! My husband works very hard and sweats a lot. About a month after using my LG front loading washing machine all of our clothes (his especially) began to stink! I could not figure it out until one day I watched it spinning around dirty sweaty clothes with next to no water. Everyone I spoke to kept telling me it was the washer itself that was smelly but that did not add up. You are right! It takes water to clean clothes. How are you going to get oils and sweat out of clothing without HOT WATER with soap rinsing the oils out??? Doing this to my LG made an immediate difference and now my laundry is clean. This problem also explained why my sheets and towels were feeling and smelling funky even after washing them 2-3 times in a row back to back. It's because they were STILL DIRTY. For all the water I was supposedly "saving" I was using 3 times the electrical and still getting stinky bacteria filled clothes.

I have this same washer, we live in South America bought it earlier this year. It’s our second LG front load and that one lasted 14 years. I was surprised at the low water level and my laundry was coming out stiff and scratchy. Adding a few buckets of water worked and my laundry was coming out much cleaner and softer but there was no way adding buckets to each load was going to be a long-term solution. I found your video, confirmed this adjustment on some other repair sites, and it was an super easy fix. Thanks!

Omg, thanks so much for posting this!! I regretted buying this washer immediately and unfortunately was unable to meet the 48hr mark to try a load of laundry and wasn’t allowed to return it - so frustrating! There’s NO way your clothes are “clean” if half of them come out completely DRY!! It didn’t even work when I did very small laundry loads or used the various options. Even the LG tech guy who came to look at it said it worked fine... ugh Anyways, this was a super easy fix and it worked! 2 full turns to the right did the trick (used a flat head screwdriver). The only thing I did different was instead of scraping the loctite glue with a knife, I softened it by applying nail polish remover with a Qtip. I was so scared I was gonna use too much pressure with the knife, it really is a super delicate contraption. Plus I felt like the knife was too big to force between the screw and the glue. I also had to stabilize it with my hand while I made the 2 turns, so just need to be extra careful! On a side note, I don’t think I’ll ever recommend to anyone to get a front load washer... it takes twice the time as a top load one and you always have to leave the lid open so the inside completely dries otherwise you get mold

Excellent video Frank! I have an LG front load that me and my wife got as a wedding present 10 years ago! It has been rock solid and the only repair we've had to do on it was the "COLD WATER" valve that controls that cold water that is fed into the drum when you wash a load of clothes needed to be replaced because it was leaking down through the bottom of the washer on the inside and leaking onto the floor! Your spot on about how water is an integral part of how clean your clothes ultimately are and the front-load washers are notorious for being very conservative with the amount of water you get in your wash cycles! The way I've been able to overcome this issue with the front-load washers is to use the "Permanent Press" cycle or the "Delicate Cycle" plus I use the add more water selection that is on the control panel on my LG Washer! It makes a heck of a difference and my clothes are clean and have no odor as well as my stainless steel tub and the large rubber seal around the opening of the door since I wipe it down after every single wash! I also take out the laundry detergent dispenser and rinse it off to make sure there are no soap residues on it and wipe the inside of the washer where the detergent dispenser goes! :-) I might have to try your little "Trick" for adding more water at some point especially since my LG is now 10 years old and has been out of warranty for almost 7 years! It has been awesome though for sure! Take care big "Frank"! Mac Baker

Ok now I don't feel like I'm losing my mind. I always feel like my clothes are dry! Not even washed. I will take a shirt out and half of it will be completely dry and its infuriating. Especially waiting for an hour or more for a load to have it not be washed. I have kids and many loads of laundry and spending an entire weekend rehashing the same loads does not work for me. Plus my gym clothes were so musty smelling. Now I know why. The sensor clearly is not factoring the size of the load and the water amount needed to *properly* wash all the clothes. I'm 40 minutes into a load now that doesn't have any visible water. Making the middle of the load of clothes dry. I cannot wait to try this technique. CANNOT WAIT! (We're already past warranty coverage, and I'll be taking notes from commenters above to cautiously twist the screw) thanks for sharing 👏👏👏
@jrm5233 жыл бұрын
Also, I wanted to mention.. liquid detergent build up over time in side loaders and causes mildew in the drum. Powdered detergent or powdered packets have a different chemical composition and actually help to prevent buildup of mold. Another piece of info that I wanted to share is if your front loader stinks, you can do a shock treatment to clean it up. Use one or two powdered dishwasher tablets, 1/4 cup of salt, and two gallons of vinegar. Load your side loader with towels and pour the vinegar on them so that they are completely soaked. Run the washer on the longest/hottest cycle with extra rinse. Lastly, clean the drain catch filter and your washer should smell much better.
@pedrosmyth83662 жыл бұрын
This does not make a lot of sense. Dishwashing detergents are alkaline, vinegar is the opposite (acidic); adding one to the other will neutralize them--reducing the effectiveness of each. Using a HOT water cycle does work: mildew is killed at temperatures above 140F.

Using White Distilled Vinigar, washes the clothes considerably better, cost less, and it doesn't accumulate on the outside of the drum. It can also be utilzed as fabric softner. The only thing is, it doesn't proved the nice smell softener's do. But then it also doesn't accumulate on the outside of the drum either. Because it considerably more water solible than soap, one can utilize a bit more than the new HE which states using only a table spoon. Water and detergent such as Distilled White Vinegar, clean's cloths. Not less water and normal degergent which eventualll due to the lack of water, will accumulate faster.

Use caution when doing this. I followed his suggestion by turning it all the way then dialing it back a bit. I was overjoyed when I saw how much water was in the machine and seeing my clothes finally getting a good saturation. My sheets used to never get very clean and my clothes had a musty smell but after doing this those issues disappeared. BUT THEN DISASTER STRUCK. As I smugly went about relaxing in the adjacent room while it was washing, I suddenly heard a loud pop followed by a massive flood of water pouring in under the door. The pressure build up was apparently too much and the door popped open flooding the house with a full load of water. After cleaning and dialing it back a bit more I did a few more loads but this time I wedged a board between the washer door and the wall to keep it from flying open. I did a few more loads but then an aftershock happened when it flooded out. I caught it before it was totally flooded and the board did it’s job keeping the door closed but I had another flood to clean up. So yes, this does work and makes a huge difference in how clean your clothes will get but I highly recommend only turning the screw half as much as you might be inclined to and definitely keep a shop vac nearby. Oh and a side effect is a very clean tile floor.

It seems to me that when they build these things in the factory, they are arbitrarily setting this water level control way too low ! If all it takes is a very slight turn of this adjustment screw, then it really should not be a big deal for the home owner to do so. HOWEVER.........A washing machine in this day and age should simply get the clothes clean without having to disassemble the works, and then hope we don't "turn the screw" too much and cause a flood inadvertently. Simple !

The hot water line works as does the hot water input valve, but even on hot it goes pre wash cold, then a bit later it lets in a bit hot, the fills more with the "main wash" with the cold line. just doesn't let much hot water in. So even on Hot it is still washing in cool water. Col, After you made the adjustment have you tried the "Hot Water" option? @@mauricel.ramirez6533 in my "research", the two problems are somewhat related....they don't want us using water and they don't want us using fuel to heat the water...we are left with barely wet, cold wash cycles. couple things, first, I use "Towels" now (even after adjustment) to get enough water. I guess the machine knows towels absorb more. Second, I came up with a work around for the hot water. It is kind of a pain, but really not too bad if you really like hot water cycle like I do. I put a Y on the hot water source tap, with both sides set to OPEN. Then I put a Y on the 'cold water in' on the back of the machine. I have one hot water line going to hot in, one hot water line going to the Y on the cold in, and the other side of the Y is the cold water line. (you need three lines to do this). The Y at the hot tap stays open so i just used the little brass Y with open levers that are hard to open but you never need to move them. For the "Cold Water In" Y I used a Y that has bigger levers that are easier to move. So for every load I want hot, I run on "cold water", but I close the cold and open the hot at the cold water in Y. Then at about 45 minutes, when the machine is on rinse, I close the hot and open the cold, for cold rinse. for the hot water tap Y: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N9QQCJP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for the cold water in Y: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019MS0HK8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
