So all that chain is just to weigh down the cables so that the winch cable doesn’t just flop down on your ceiling when you lower it, right?
@RoadRashOffRoad Жыл бұрын
that is right..... the winch cable needs weight to "pull down" the D Hooks. The D Hooks do not weight enough by themselves. You could possibly find a heavier hook instead of adding weight to the lines.

Awesome. Going to be one of my top priorities.

You won't regret it.... It took me a couple of hours (and some beers on a rainy day) to install it but it's the BEST hardtop lift I have seen. My winch is rated for 440 lbs (and is distributing weight at 4 points) and the top is only about 150 lbs. As an added benefit, during the winter when the top stays on the Jeep, just take a 4 x 8' sheet of plywood, screw some eye bolts into the corners and you can store stuff on it and lift it to the ceiling (dual storage purpose).

Thanks for the video. I installed this for my wife. The video was helpful but the cost is more like $300.00 after you buy everything. It’s a time consuming project however, I would do it again! Thanks again!

That is awesome. When I installed mine, I bought the winch from Facebook Marketplace and I believe I bought it for about $69 or so. $300 is still not a bad price for an “electric” hardtop hoist. Like you, I installed it more so for my wife, so she could lift the top off by herself. Almost 2 years later, still works like day 1. Never had an issue. I even added a rooftop rack with light pods to the top and the hoist lifts both the hardtop and the rooftop rack at the same time. I would totally do it again. Question (just because I’m always trying to make better content): did you follow my video directions and if so, where they clear? Was there any part of the video that I could have been more accurate?

Fantastic idea, and great breakdown of everything. Gotta point out, too, in your intro... those creek crossing look like a place very close to me called Cashes Valley..

@@RoadRashOffRoad it's definitely a beautiful ride back there... luckily, it's only about 10 minutes from me, I can go any time 👍

Great build, but those chains hitting the top and paint made me cringe inside. 😞
@RoadRashOffRoad7 ай бұрын
Thank you John for the compliment John. The chains come down so slow, they don’t do anything to the top. (Also, this jeep has been through some really really rough places in the woods… these chains are the least of my concern 😅)

Could you put measurements of the steel cable? Also how tall is your garage?

@@RoadRashOffRoad great content. Glad to be here early to watch rise to 1M subs
@RoadRashOffRoad3 жыл бұрын
@@bigbaggs1989 Thank you for the kind words Bruce. I am fairly new to the "KZbin Content Creator" world and I learn so much from every video I create. While I would LOVE to have 1M subs (not going to lie, that would be awesome), I'm OK if I don't because I just really enjoy filming and making content and I would do it anyway with just a couple of hundred that found value in it. Becoming monetized and making a bit of money would defiantly help with the quality.... so here's to the next 999,900 subs.

All that work and you let the metal hit the hard too and nic it up.

Good eye.... but unfortunately that came from an off-road trip. Didn't happen from the hard top lift.

How much did this cost ya?
@RoadRashOffRoad3 жыл бұрын
This cost my right at $100 or so because I was able to find a hoist / winch on FB marketplace for about $60.

Why so complicated?Could you not just use the hoist
@RoadRashOffRoad8 ай бұрын
I could absolutely just put a hoist on the ceiling… but as I said in my video, 2 things I wanted to accomplish…: 1. It had to be electric so my wife (who weighs less than that top) could lift it off the jeep by herself. Manuel hoist would be hard for her 2. My home is a condo / townhouse which means my garage is very small so I needed to maximize the room in my garage. Using a hoist attached to the ceiling would make the hard top hang down about 1ft from the ceiling. Since I had the available space above the garage that is not being used for anything, why not accomplish both goals and build something custom and cool.
@agrispilegis48068 ай бұрын
@@RoadRashOffRoad Looks like 9ft ceiling. I mounted the electric hoist to the roof trusses in attic. I can also use it to move junk into attic.Nice job
