I made a version of this comment on another video before this one went up, but I’m so thankful to Matt and his banana for being so fantastic with my son and all the other kids here. My kiddo (the one in the Spider-man costume) has ADHD and autism and sitting still for any extended period of time is nigh-impossible for him. Because of this, I was initially planning on Saturday being dad day and Sunday being dad and kid day. I told Matt I wouldn’t be able to bring my son and, in an effort to help me and my family feel welcome, he encouraged me to bring him anyway (without knowing any of the specifics), suggesting ways I might try to make it work. Well, that suggestion made me rethink my whole approach to the weekend, and I ended up bringing him both days. My kiddo LOVES retro games and was thrilled to come to the panel, to meet Matt beforehand and show him some of his favorite games (we brought our copies of Chrono Trigger and Super Metroid.) And he had so much fun getting to talk in the microphone to everyone about these things we enjoy so much, playing the apple, orange, banana game and even getting some suspiciously banana-like prizes. He felt a sense of belonging he doesn’t always get, because when he wants to share his passion for his hobbies, he tends to lose people quickly when they’re not familiar with what he’s talking about. We need to find some kind of retro gamer group for kids here in Portland. Heck, maybe we should start one. I’ve been to PRGE every year it’s been on since 2017, and a couple other cons when I lived in different parts of the country before we settled here and had kids. This panel was far and away the most enjoyable one I’ve ever been to, and the best thing any KZbinr has ever done in a live venue AFAIC. Where most of the KZbinrs I’ve met tend to fall in love with their own reflections, which makes their panels uncomfortable exercises in vanity, Matt and Mrs. Nanner made everyone in the room feel welcome. That’s how it should be at a convention based on a shared love of something. You’ve got big fans for life from us. Also, my kiddo asked me to tell “the Retro Game Duck” hi. ❤

I was telling so many of our family and friends about the adorable kiddo that proudly showed his games to Matt, had awesome questions, and came up to me in the game enthusiastically talking about his banana prize, “he gave me a banana thiiiisssss biiiiiggg!”. I'm fully on board getting younger generations into retro gaming. I built a few dozen retropie consoles and give them to friends' and families' kids for birthdays and Christmas etc. for the last few years. still still have 4 left. I'll keep fighting the good fight. Like the early Amazing Spiderman on the Game Boy them birds don't play around! I just love your show. When I watch your show my son says I’m hanging out with my buddy Retrobird. Also my daughters love watching you hilarious hijinks. Have no fear my children play retro video games. Quick little story for you, when I was a kid every Friday night me and my best friend would watch the TGIF sitcom line up (Family Matters, Full House, Perfect Strangers) while playing video games on the NES. It is one my most treasured childhood memories. Flash forward to today, when I am looking forward to and watching your new videos on Friday nights it gives me the same great feelings I got back in the early 90s.
