people that have been through trauma and feel like they have to take care of themselves, the selfishness is more of a survival mentality.

From personal experience, even when I didn’t have to be in that survival mode anymore, it didn’t mean my body got the message. I developed a lot of vigilant habits over safety. They don’t go away overnight. Being gentle with yourself doesn’t mean selfish. If you rush something that can’t be rushed, it won’t heal properly. For me, God told me to take it easy when I needed rest and He told me to push myself when I was making excuses. Only you will know the difference for your life. Sometimes life takes time, even when you’re fully leaning on Him. I pray your healing goes beyond what you can imagine and that the growth that comes from the struggle makes it all worth it. God bless ❤

People who have been through abuse in childhood and have had abusive adult relationships need to take care of themselves. Some of us weren't fortunate enough to meet a Dave Meyer. There are many wolves out there. Including in the church.

One MUST take care of oneself FIRST for if you cannot and do not take care of yourself, you cannot be fit enough to take care of others. It just will not work. We are human. We ALL have needs.

@ClancyKeegan-f4v4 ай бұрын
@kimberlymiller655 Not when you have nowhere else to go and you lack confidence. Also, trauma comes with ptsd, night terrors, etc. Sometimes, God doesn't heal everyone. It's an individual thing. Yes, you're right. When you know better, you do better. That comes with wisdom. It also comes with favourable circumstances. Like meeting a Dave Meyer. We are not all blessed in that way. Sometimes, people have difficult lives, and they don't see their blessings in the land of the living. That's where faith comes in. Maybe that's God's plan for some people. To not get everything their heart desire but to have faith anyway.

Yes i totally relate to this absolutely amen.

The take away from this wasn’t that you need a dave Meyer to take care of you. She even said it’s not about trusting men, it’s about trusting GOD. The take away from this was that you can never be happy and selfish at the same time. I’ve been thru childhood abuse too, horribly, and trying to ignore the impulse to be selfish (as in constantly worrying about how to take care of myself) feels like trying to learn to walk with two left feet…Just pour your heart into helping others all you can, pray for others, and trust god to take care of you. That’s all I can say. I’m still trying to get this myself so Idw to give you the impression that I know better or anything. It’s like the recovering alcoholics like to say …” poor me. Poor me. Pour me another drink”

Mama Joyce, that’s the person who I am. I feel empty when I’m not helpful. I drive a truck 80% of my life. And what drove me on a regular day today was that my family was taking care of. That included my eight siblings And their children as well. I also was able to give to local charities on a regular. People that have helped in my life and has continuingly to help people through their own homegrown organizations. Our house has been empty. My finances has become. And weekly challenge , and I’m starting to feel empty. Because I have no one to help. I am 51 years old. I got in the Trucking because I wanted to build my own daycare. My family needed me. And I was glad to help. I’ve even had my family and other families living under my roof that I have supported. It gave me a reason to wake up and get out of bed, and deal with the nonsense and the evil spirit of the trucking industry in a more of a Christian way. Now I feel as though I just have myself. For some reason, it doesn’t help me. Dealing with self does not bring out the best in me. I would Rather have my life full/distracted and helping others. I felt that that brought out the best in me. It sure put me in a happier mindset about 90%of the time. The other 10% was when I allowed my pride and God had to step in and do tough love. Which I was OK with that. I welcome that because it helped me become a better giver. Also brought me to where I need to be. Staying in my lane as they say.🫶🏾 don’t get me wrong. I will plant seeds here and there. It’s just not on a consistent basis. Like I would like it to be.
