An affiliate account and associates account are different. I only have 48 subscribers and qualified for the Amazon Associates account. I just signed up last week and my sister bought some things using the links I posted in my video descriptions. Amazon has already posted some of my commission for that. Make sure you don't sent the links in personal emails or directly to people. They want you to post to sites. Hope this helps a bit.

I did 2 articles and posted both on both sites, vocal accepted 1 and rejected 1.....Medium accepted both. I revised the 1 that got rejected twice, and vocal rejected it both times. I have since added a third to Medium with no problem, and deleted my account on vocal. Only problem is I got zero views on Medium after 3 days......
