Get Past the Driving Examiner & Pass Your Test 1st Time

Dear Dr. Rick August, I have been so excited to tell you that yesterday I PASSED my Driver’s Road Test-my first and only time I did the Road Test. My mom taught me how to drive, and we watched a lot of your videos throughout my training. Your videos helped my mom and me very much along the way of her teaching me how to drive. Thank you so much for what you do. You are one of the reasons I not only passed my test, but passed it on the FIRST try. My test was in Orangeburg, New York. It went so fast that when I returned to the start of the test where my mom was waiting, she was shocked and thought something “automatic fail” must have happened. The examiner had me do three right turns, three left turns, a parallel parking behind one car, and a 3 point turn. I had a few deductions, but I passed with ten points to spare! I was so nervous! There are many things I would not have known if it weren’t for your videos. Your videos helped me in parallel parking, 3 point turns, “shoulder checking,” and so much more. It is much easier to learn something when you can see someone else do it, and it also really helps when you show the maneuver from outside the car. This view shows me what it looks like outside the car and helps me do it myself better. My mom and I learned about 2 point reverse turns from your videos. Before seeing your video, my mom thought that turn was something she just did when she needed to. She would just make sure no cops were around. When we saw your video, she was like “Wow! I thought that was not legal, because when her parents did that it was usually cause they were upset/lost and had to do a quick turn around in a tense situation! She thought from their actions that it was something you weren’t supposed to do. I do that sometimes. I didn’t know is a legal maneuver. It even has a name!” She now is doing it without feeling like she has to hide, ha. The same with going to the center of the intersection to make a left, and waiting there without being worried of a red light happening after all that wait; now she knows that it is legal to do that. My dad enjoyed watching your videos too. My ten-year-old sister watches your videos with me sometimes and she considers and calls herself “a smart driver.” My twelve-year-old special needs brother says you are “ a smart man.” My dad says that you are “a hero." In your videos, you often say “for the purposes of the road test,” and so my mom started saying that when she was instructing me. It became so popular, we use the phrase “for the purposes of” with almost everything now: “for the purposes of dinner…” “for the purposes of church…” You started a new saying in our house! We refer to you as “Smart Guy” in our house. When we have a driving question, we say, “let’s see if Smart Guy has a video about it.” You have a video about almost everything. I failed my first test, getting 4 Fs, Obstructing other traffic, failing to observe the stop sign, failing to take the exit lane and not being able to move at the intersection while turning left. I am afraid to take a second chance. Help me what to do.
