This is a revealing insight into how you do things. These basics still apply to someone as experienced as yourself except of course that for you it is second nature. Every time I set up the tripod I hear your voice in the background so some of your pearls of wisdom must be sinking in. Many thanks Craig for re-booting my photographic fun.

Speaking of photo fit I purchased an amazonbasics backpack style bag and packed it with most of the gear I might want on a day out in the country, 21 lbs without food, water, rain gear or a few minor emergency items, OOF! @@ Maybe I need the Lycra and sweatbands as well. ;-D I did gift myself a mid-priced 100/2.8 macro (nice long manual focus throw and a real aperture ring) so I've got something reasonably sharp in that gap between 50 and 300mm, it will be my one lens to go walkabout with this coming Tuesday.

Happy NY. Always look forward to your postings. Long may your great videos continue. One thing I don't understand is when I use my 70-200 f4 camera lens with a polarising filter the meter shows that the picture is exposed correctly, but it is underexposed. However, without the polariser the dial is indicates that the exposure is correct and it is. I wonder if I pay more attention to the histogram the issue will be resolved. I can recover it in post, but that is not the way I want to do things.
@oneeyedphotographer6 жыл бұрын
Don't use the meter. See the histogram technique.

WE dont NEED a gym,per se,yet some feel better being not home,in a facility.With photography,like with being fit,you need to practice,learn,study,get outside,and learn by doing.Use your feet and move,before you keep adjusting those zooms,and dont be afraid to use something weird,different,something out of a bin,clean it,and shoot.Sit down and learn your settings,on a nice day,shooting the same picture,with different settings.Change your positions,and lean,turn,sit,stand,and lay down,getting closer to your subjects.Stop being scared of shadows and let effects happen.Keep yourself fit by walking,walking,listening,and grab that bike,skateboard,and run when you can,even in the grass.Get manual like he said,whenever possible..
@nimmira6 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna try some of those. I've already got back to No.10 workout, taking one camera and one lens with me to work, and that's before 2019! I need to work more on that. I think it is ok to just go a lil bit over the exposure but it must be shot in RAW (and with working in ProPhoto space, I think we can reach an optimum here to get the most out of the image). I've mostly used WB for artistic purposes but recently, after some troublesome situations with the colors with some panoramas, I started to prefer to calibrate my WB and use custom WB and later work on the colors in post-processing phase. Still though, I find myself using Fluorescent WB mostly in twilight times (dusk and dawn), and with clouds, it kinda gives a magical sense to the scene.

A wonderfully thought out and planned video Craig, with your brilliant sense of humour added in. Very enjoyable indeed. I’m doing an analogue 365 project this year, though it’s gone wrong already as I've managed to take 7 shots so far. I’m limiting myself to my 'worst' camera, a Canon EOS 2000 FN (or is that NF?), a plastic fantastic 50mm, and TMax 400. I think these restrictions have been influenced by a certain KZbin channel I watch. Happy New Year Craig, I hope 2019 is a brilliant year for you.
@Semeyaza6 жыл бұрын
Is this the project where you take just one analog photo per day during the whole year? If so, good luck! ;) Cheers
@markharris57716 жыл бұрын
Semeyaza It is, but most people have the sense to use either a digital camera or their mobile phone. Thanks
@Semeyaza6 жыл бұрын
@@markharris5771 Well, using a film camera can help you focus even more since you have to manage manually some things that are automated (or supported by various algorythms) on digital camera (even worse on phones). And having a fixed iso film roll with peculiar characteristics also limits you range of actions forcing you to think deeply about what you are doing. Limits are good for creativity and stimulating the brain. ;) i still shoot film from time to time... maybe I can do somethin similar.. I still have a Canon 1n which can use all my eos lenses... but to limit myself still... My old rollei 35B. Pocketable, fun to use, nice enough lens... Maybe I'm it's not to late still. :D Cheers
@markharris57716 жыл бұрын
Semeyaza The EOS range do have AF but I’ve turned it off, I tend not to use it on either this camera or my EOS 5. In fact I will often use manual focusing with my wildlife images and landscapes with my digital cameras. The camera I’m using is the last SLR I bought before going digital with my 5DII. I was still working all the hours God sent in those days and only used a camera on high days and holidays, hence a very middle of the road camera. Thanks to watching Craig’s brilliant videos I went out to challenge myself with this project, though I admit I often shoot at 50mm as my favourite camera is my Zorki 4K with a Jupiter 8 50mm lens. I look quite a sight bombing around on my mobility scooter to get the best out of the lens. I wanted to do this project with my cheapest prime lens kit, just to see what results I could get. I do quite a bit of film photography and have a dark room for my 35mm B&W images. I have to scan 120 and colour but I’ve have an eye out for a 120 and 35mm enlarger as I’d like to take some of my Bronica shots into the darkroom.

I was out and about today with a new digital camera that has no Histogram ISO setting (btw did you not remember that ISO is a word, not an acronym. I believe it's incorrect to spell it out). Shutter speed setting Aperture setting Manual focus.

I believe ISO is gain over time !! It doesn’t change the sensitivity of the cameras censor !! Also it’s NOT part of an Exposure “triangle” !!! It’s Post Exposure!!! Really believe Camera Manufacturers should have used different terminology. It’s amazing how many photographers on You Tube get this wrong !!! Aperture & Shutter Speed create the image on the censor. 👍🏼😋
