It's a done deal that the fed will go with the 25bps cut that the markets pretty much priced as a step of calibration of the fed funds rate from restrictive towards neutral (unknown). What people will do is to go immediately to the back of the book and check the updated economic outlook and the new FOMC projections which will reflects where and how much the fed shifted his approach to the monatary policies for 2025. As the latest data signals a disruption on the inflation downtrend and its stickiness for the 4th consecutive month around 3% (well above the fed's 2% target) and as the new Trump's administration getting closer to take the state, we're anticipating to have a dot plot that projects a lower 2025 rate cuts (3 cuts instead of 4). About January, Powell will try to sounds neutral by keep his "data dependency" rhetoric and he'll avoid at the same time any hawkish attachment for the hold decision that markets anticipating (so he won't weigh more on yields that's already hitting its yearly highs) so by that, he'll keep his optionality to cut (in case the December's data deteriorates) and pauses later or hold it( for the 1st quarter coming to the 2nd quarter (Mars/Mai) ) for him to gains more clarity and precieves the pace and the amount of Trump 2.0 fiscal policies and then the rate path and the speed of getting to neutral will adjust accordingly.
