I admire you so much! I think you would be a great professor at your local college teaching new teachers. You have your Masters Degree which allows you to teach college. You have an excellent style of teaching, you're creative, organized, have great knowledge and warmth. Love all your videos!!

@@PocketfulofPrimaryNot in Texas, there are community colleges that hire you as an Adjunct with a Masters degree, or 36 units in the subject. I worked for one, this is how I know this. Explore this option. You would be good at it!

Great reminder about shutting down electronics before bed. I read on my kindle but maybe I should read an actual book at bedtime instead….keeping consistent sleep times really helps me and so does giving myself a solid 8 hours and 9 on the weekends, to sleep. I guess I needed more sleep because I feel much better doing it! 😊

Happy Friday, Michelle! Your monthly wrap up vlogs have become my favorites. Congratulations on achieving your Texas teaching license! I like how you outlined all the steps that were involved in the process. Of the books that you read this month, I have read The Happiness Project. I also enjoyed it, and I have listened to a podcast from Gretchen Rubin a few times that I also enjoyed. I think she might co-host it with her sister, but don't quote me on that. Your trip to Germany seemed absolutely amazing. The food alone would be worth the trip! I'm excited to hear about your achievements for the upcoming month of June. Thanks for always being such an encouragement for so many teachers! I loved the tips you and Bridget shared for end of the year on the Teaching to the TOP podcast. No spend challenges are fantastic! I do one each year (my husband and I call it "No Buy July"). My biggest tip is to make a list of no spend activities to try throughout the month :)

Congratulations on getting certified in Texas! I would also highly recommend getting your ESL supplemental certification as well. With our high Emergent Bilingual population in Texas, many districts require the ESL cert 😊

Like you said, it's "free money"! Seems like you had a great time in Germany! I love the idea of going on a food tour! I've never done one before, but I think it would be so fun. Congrats on accomplishing your goals for the month and for also becoming certified to teach in Texas! That's amazing news. Congrats on getting your teaching license in Texas🎉🥳! I had 450 on your fees (my cousin lives in Dallas paid 400 for her license about 10 years ago). Ember always is stinking cute! I know I need to get the happiness project for myself! Life for me has been downright awful lately. I just learned on Tuesday that I will have to look for a new job as the medical practice I have been a part of for almost 17 years is closing its doors (will be writing a couple of remembrance posts in the next couple of weeks). Your food from Germany looked so good and the experience was 🤩! I can’t wait for October when I do my food experience in D.C. (at least one celebrity chef’s restaurant maybe two)

So glad you didn’t have to take all the exams! When I transferred my license to Texas I had to take ALL of my exams again. I think in total is was about 5. 😳

Budgets and impulses. I’m the queen of impulse buys. Make a list of the things you want. I’ve been doing this on amazon. Example: I really want a new dress! I’ll put one or two in the cart and walk away. If it’s still there in a week or two and I still need (not want) then Ill consider it again. Leave it again for 24 hours before hitting buy. Normally by then I don’t need it and I can find a better place to spend money.

I actually do the exact same thing! I add a lot of things to my "List" on Amazon and then revisit it to decide if I still want it. I also have a list of things to buy that aren't a priority. It's definitely helped cut down on the impulse buys!

PLEASE ask if you need to take the 30 HOURS of GT training!! You can find courses online during the summer. My district in texas requires all teachers to take the training.

My Dad made me learn on a manual. We would suddenly have me make turns, had to learn to do everything fast. I would get upset because it took time to think through everything that had to be done in order to make that turn. Learned to do hills while in traffic. It took 3 cycles with a lot of horns honking at me. My sister kept telling people to move around.

Honestly, I wish I had been able to learn on a manual! Unfortunately we just never had access to one which is why I had to rent one to finally learn after all these years. That's awesome though!

As someone who finished my texas teacher certification recently, if you aren't already certified it is $5k+. Which is dumb, because the programs don't actually teach you how to be a teacher.

You can find horror stories in any career. Even if the grass looks greener. Sure it seems nice to isolate yourself say in a work from home position if that even exists in 2024-a well paying one I mean but its a bit like retiring early, sure some will tell you they're living the life but in reality, doing something gives life meaning. The impact you will have on their lives while earning a paycheck is worth it but no one here can tell you, you have to try for yourself. I would say with AI a lot of positions are becoming obselete and never have nurses and teachers been a more ai-proof career for now.

I don’t know if I’ve just been lucky with my employers but getting certified in Maryland and recertified after I left teaching was pretty reasonable. The PD was and is expensive.

Yes, a little bit! That’s one major difference between being in the classroom and working for yourself… it’s like you’re never “off duty”. Even in the summer.

Curious as did you have to apply for a Reciprocity License as an out of state certified teacher? I am having the craziest time getting certified here in Nevada from Missouri.

I just followed the directions for applying as a holder of an out of state certificate... I documented more of that process in the initial vlog if you want to go back and watch it (link is in the description box).

I went to the planner today to try and do a June goal, but I can’t use my pencil on the google slides.

Hi Heather! The Google Slides version of the digital planner is meant to be used on a device with a keyboard where you type your information in the text boxes that are already inserted on the slides. It is not designed to be used with a pencil... you need the tablet version with an annotation app to use a stylus to write on it.
