The use of that oval-shaped passive radiator on the back of the speaker is interesting. In your video, it's easy to see that, instead of moving as a piston, parts of it are moving out while the other side is moving in. Putting it differently, it "wobbles". So it seems that it would be reinforcing some frequencies while diminishing others. I don't think that's something they can tune - the oval racetrack just tilts from top to bottom as the pressure wave moves across it. To me it would be sloppy, messy, and uncontrolled. I wonder if they'll go to a circular, driver like passive radiator(s) in the Mk II edition?

Excellent review! Im looking for a box speaker to compliment my Maggies. How would you say they compare against your LRS +.
@MadAudiofficial3 ай бұрын
@@dajikbatarang1 Thank you, FR5 alone is a much more versatile speaker, LRS+ it’s still requires a Subwoofer to cover the full frequency spectrum, problem is that you will need a sub with good speed, musicality and right placement. I also find the LRS+ pretty difficult to drive, however without taking in consideration bass extensions, i find that any bookshelf can compete with LRS+ Soundstage and coloration free performance. But i have to say that FR5 on midrange and Top end is the only one that really got so closer to it!

@@MadAudiofficial good to know. I have the 1.7i with 2 JL Audio e110 subs actively crossed over. It sounds amazing, but sometimes I miss the pin point accuracy imaging a point source speaker has. The PS Audio using a planar tweeter has me really interested since i love planar speakers.
@MadAudiofficial3 ай бұрын
@@dajikbatarang1 Are you using the JL Audio CR1 crossover? I didn’t test it yet but i will, I tested other active crossover for Sub and is normal that you lose a bit of focus, since you are always introducing extra Components in the chain IMO.
@dajikbatarang13 ай бұрын
@@MadAudiofficial I am using a sublime audio k231 active crossover. It works well and sounds great. With Maggies (and any other line source speaker) imaging is good but never pin point like a really precise box speaker. I think it has to do more with the speaker design than the crossover. When i used the maggies without the crossover imaging was about the same.
@MadAudiofficial3 ай бұрын
@@dajikbatarang1 ok understand, maybe you can try different speakers placement, between distance and toe in. I never tested the 1.7 but the LRS+ are impressive in Pin point imaging.

The 705 is designed not to be facing to the listner! Placed right (No toeing in) an you will receive neutral Highs with lots of air… Give it a try 😊

@@rubinpanis8471 Yes you right, is much better without toeing in, but still bothers me in the sibilance region, i mean that’s really subjective btw! I feel too much contrast there, every time vocal is pronouncing S.

Great review, thank you for the easy on the ear presentation. Speaker choice is so subjective, as an older chap my hearing only goes to 9.5 kHz so extended high frequencies miss me altogether! Maybe the PS Audio look better up close but on screen but they do look cheap and unattractive to my eye. Don’t think my wife would let them in the house!!! Also the difference in tweeter height is huge between these speakers which, unless there’s 3-400mm difference in stand height, will have an effect on the high frequency presentation.
@MadAudiofficial3 ай бұрын
@@MichaelWilliams-jc2ui I think look is also something subjective, what i can say is that they looks good better in person than in the picture or video, maybe they can think to add some veneer finish!

Your back wall looks very cluttered especially the TV ( place it higher by 25-30cm and I guarantee better imaging and depth ), I’d also use low level racks if possible. All gear should be lower than the speakers cuz the reflections would be quite uneven. Just my own experience. Ofc every room is different but as a general rule.
