Get Ready With Me 1560's Venetian

Dressing historically! My first #getreadywithme and it's my gown from the 1560's, inspired by a fresco from Sala Reggia, Vatican City. This is a gown I absolutely love due to the sleeves. Watch me struggle to dress myself because I don't have a servant on hand, like the wealthy Italian Renaissance ladies in the fresco. #dsathreads lace, as always. #grwm #costube

This is so beautiful. I did a Venetian dress one time, it wasn't nearly as nice. In fact I took it apart and used the fabric in something else after the event. Now I want to try another one

This might sound like a idiotic idea but, why couldn't you button on the sleeves first before donning the gown ? Oh, loved the video ...I enjoy seeing how all these pieces go together. You are truly talented.

Yeah I have tried that too, it tends to be harder for me to coordinate getting my arms through the sleeves as well as through the bodice. It can be done, but it tends to be even more of a struggle for a small bit. :)

Corset is a Victorian term for a Victorian accessory. Stays did not become popular until after the 16th century. It was more common to stiffen the bodice of the gown or under gown for the same effect.

until modern times, the side openings of the layer on top helped us to conceal all kinds of things, including OG pockets. OG pockets were huge bags, often tied around a supportive waist structure or attached to something by lacing/tying on... bring em back!

(fuller skirts take more fabric to make, but can be cut apart to make new things because of their big panels... and are great for hiding all sorts of things... and supportive garments were far better than the Evil Modern Bras of Doom... so we could all just abandon tight garments and tie giant pockets to our supportive garments at the natural waistline, to keep the weight more evenly distributed on our hips vs ruining our backs/necks/shoulders with the giant handbags ... the giant pockets could be internal or external, but internal pockets move less 😅)

They wore veils because decent women did not go about the public with their heads bared. And also it kept their hair a tad bit cleaner for longer.

Wonder why they weren't designed w/ the sleeves sewn on to the dress ???????🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔, would have made dressing so much easier. Somebody wasn't using their pea brain .🤔🤔

Because sleeves could be an accessory. They could switch out sleeves and change the look of the outfit. Giving someone sleeves for a gift was common.
