Recently I read Quiet, a book about introversion and extroversion. At the end the author writes "The secret to life is to put yourself in the right lighting. For some its a Broadway spotlight, for others, a lamplit desk." As someone who navigates both (through touring and writing), what are your thoughts? how do you balance the need to be alone and work with being out in the world/doing things/interacting with people?

Goodness. The backround in this video is SO gorgeous. I discovered you this year ( it was a beautiful discovery) and I've been enjoying your videos a lot! I think it's hard to set goals which are achievable on the one hand and on the other hand challenge you to become better- by 'achieving' goals you automatically are excited to reach new ones. Hope to see you one day touring in Germany! lots of love your way!

there's just somethin bout failing that just puts a damper on every other goal that you set that relates to the one you failed. don't let that consume you, sure you didn't meet it the first time- doesn't mean you're gonna fail it again and again. with that said, don't set higher expectations for goals that you succeed or fail bc you feel like you need to do better. feel comfortable with the things you do and the little tiny things you accomplish ! your vids are lovely and ily

hey tessa i know you wont read this nor answer back but thank you, thank you so much for just being alive and existing and writing music and overall for just talking about your day. I share similar views as you on terms of failing and in all honesty its been a weird year for me ive felt like such a failure and ive excluded myself from a whole lot but watching your videos some how makes me feel part of something. I want to move foreward currently i feel as if im standing still- im not inspired or i feel i lack the creativity i once had. School is draining and time is going by so fast- what do you suggest i do to fuel my goal of being inspired or getting back out there in the world.

"And I definitely didn't like to tell people goals out loud. If I were to do anything, I'd do it internally, so if I did fail, nobody would know." This is one of the most relateable things I've heard in a while. Every time I watch one of your vids, and I've only seen a couple, you say something that hits me oddly close to home. It felt amazing hearing somebody else say that. I never know quite how I want to explain it to people, and it's embarrassing in it's own right to try and verbalize it without the person/people you're talking to think it's silly when they don't have the same problem as you.

I used to have this crushing fear of failure. I wanted absolute perfection, and so when I did something as well as possible I couldn't let myself enjoy it because it's what I expected of myself. I have since had to deal with the self-esteem issues associated with not being perfect. Now I know my limits and I know I won't succeed at everything, and it's freeing to know that and be happy with that.

Can I just say that I love the idea of Spring Cleaning your mind and setting goals a bit later in the year after adjusting to last years changes and revelations for a bit. Deciding to move forward with a better understanding of where you are and where you want to be, and *how* to get there. As opposed to setting your sights too soon (in January) and ultimately end up stumbling and wandering around, aimlessly. I want to start trying to incorporate this in my life because I think it would help me. Thank you for sharing

Can't love these videos enough! I identify so well with many of your thoughts and feelings around creating and trying to be organized. As I deal with multiple points of transitioning in my life, and as I try to write my thoughts about my life and feelings, these video essays focus and describe some of these things really well. I've recently been using goals more and more, I think I always had such a vague impression of my future plans, if I had any, but I want to do a lot, and I relate with finding goals useful in directing efforts, I'm not someone who can make a detailed goal or plan and stick to it, but making a plan and recording in outside the mind through writing or otherwise, is just so helpful :)

The failure I see is in my lack of uploading - my failure to provide the content that people have subscribed to me for. I love that view, so thank you for reinforcing it!

You are inspiring to me especially when it comes to setting up goals and setting yourself up for success. I only just started posting regularly here (only 16 videos so far!) so this was great to watch and listen to because it gave me the impetus to keep going and not be so hard on myself with any kind of 'failure'.

Yay, new video from Tessa! I love your view on failure. Western culture emphasizes that failure is "bad," just like conflict is bad, just like anger is bad. Learning from your failures and using them as opportunities to grow and change is far more useful a perspective. Can't wait to see May's work :) Thanks for setting a great example of emotional maturity. Far too little of that on KZbin.
