1. I have no idea how I missed this video when it was posted. Beard waves: Absolutely (jaw line) Bothersome: Not as much as the fork and curliness (hereditary) Method: Oil first thing out of the shower with moist beard, boar bristle brush straight down against skin with warm heat on high speed to dry and distribute oil(now a no-no), then a good quality plastic toothed brush blow drying on cool while brushing straight forward and then again with the boar brush straight down (no dryer) not following towards the neck. This seams to help with the wave and fork until I step outside in the humidity...then I'm back to looking like Hagrid on Harry Potter. I will be trying this tonight before work. Thanks again, Dan!

DAN IS THE MAN!!! I have had a the chin wave since I started growing out my beard and have tried all sorts of things to get rid of it. I have made it 17 weeks without trimming, but was getting to the point of grabbing the trimmer and going back to a short beard. Now that I have had an opportunity to successfully master a routine where I don’t have “The Wave” any longer, I have no desire to trim and will continue to let it grow. I have even had success with using balm instead of wax. I can only imagine how long it will last. Even if I have to use this method every morning it is worth it. Too bad I can’t show before and after photos because the results are AMAZING. This is the absolute best method for removing the waves.

This is a great video. I do think it is important to differentiate between something caused by your combing versus a "cowlick," which is caused by the direction that your hair folicle actuallly grows. I have two, just to the right and left of my chin. I am hoping that the additional weight of growing out my beard (it is currently about three inches) will help pull it out. On the other hand, my barber (who sees a lot more beards close up than I do) says my beard is pretty awesome looking the way it is just because it is a little indivdualized.

Yes, I've got cowlicks/divots/dents in the exact same place, and beard at 3+ inches too (or maybe cowlicks just mostly from brushing incorrectly like Dan says). I'll try Dan's method soon as I get home today - that's WHY I'm on KZbin today! Even with the 2 crazy dents, my wife loves it and that's the most important thing. Dan, thank you, thank you, thank you for this video! Although I've had beards and/or mustaches over most of the past 45 years, these were all "short" beards that I could maintain with only the know-how to run an electric clipper. This year I finally decided to grow a longer-but-maintained beard (I still work in an office environment.) It came in nicely, but since the early stages I was mystified by the waves that formed along the jawline; on both sides, but most noticeably across my chin area. It didn't look awful, but it annoyed and puzzled me. Then, I came across your video; I've probably watched it 5 times, listening to and processing your explanation of the cause, which I would have never figured out on my own (truly, you ARE a teacher,); and observing the process. I used your very convenient links to order the tools and wax (I already had a blow dryer.) Today was my morning to perform this for the first time. I could not be happier with the results!! Waves are straightened; length, bulk, and shape all improved. I'll probably repeat weekly for the time being; and clearly I've learned what not-to-do in daily grooming, so I'll avoid adding to the problem. Thank you again, this is a beard-saver! All your videos are fun to watch, with your always-positive attitude, and sometimes graced by your beautiful wife and children. Wishing you and yours a happy Thanksgiving and holiday season.

Great technique! I'm going to try this for sure. I get a wave right under my chin that makes me want to trim, but it's only right in the front and I don't want to lose any length. I don't like the idea of using heat on my beard cause I have dry skin as is, but this looks like its fast and easy.

Literally used it yesterday and it works soooooo great!

Great video Dan love the channel brother. Hey will this work on the front. I have that front wave under my chin. I trimmed my beard and really wish I didn’t I immediately regretted it but oh well. I wanna try to correct this front wave before it’s gets long again

Thanks! I literally used this this morning on my chin!

I get a wave below my lip/ above my chin. I do a similar method with the round brush but mine doesn’t have the board hair in it. I press in on the problem spot and spin upwards with the hair wrapping around the bush. It’s a large bush so it won’t curl the hair. I blow dry as I spin the brush. It’s worked so far but I’ll try blow drying up like your method and see if it works better. Great vid!

Great video dan. That's going to help a lot. I'm right at 7 weeks in on this beard. It's left the jaw and hanging down just under an inch but it just looks a lot better and feels better if I kinda comb it in the jaw and chin. I know this is going to result in a horrific wave. I'll surely put your method to the test with this one. Thanks buddy.

So the concept is the same the chin also? Right now my beard got all sorts of mess going on there and have just been rocking the dips and waves that have been created on my chin. Thanks for your vids! Just discovered your channel and J Cruz’s channel once I decided to get serious about taking care of my beard.

Hey teach! Great method. When my beard grows back in I’m going to try this. I’ve also just been turned on to heated straightening brushes. I’m thinking about getting one. Have you tried one? If so, what are your thoughts?
@DanCBearded5 жыл бұрын
I have not tried one yet, I have been to scared. However, I am going to make it happen at some point
@crisjones14615 жыл бұрын
I can understand that. I recommend checking out Ronald Kilts. He’s selling one that I like. I found a cheaper version of his straightener on amazon. Check out his KZbin channel. I’m considering his and one other.

Hey Dan, I'm trying to choose between the Zilberhaar round boar bristle brush and the Volt round brush. I have a medium length beard, and deal with waves. I do own several Zilberhaar brushes, and although they're pricey, I like the quality and craftsmanship. The Volt round brush looks amazing and has great features. I want my bang for my buck, and I'm torn on which one to choose. Please provide me with your wisdom and guidance 🙏🙇♂️.

I have never tried a zilberhaar brush, so I cannot really say. I do use the brush daily though and love it!

@DanCBearded Thanks a lot! I just ordered the Volt brush 😀. This is going to be my first round brush. I'm also planning on buying some of the combs you mentioned in the other video 👊🙏🤝.

Great video. Actually they are all great videos. I've had a beard for over 10 years and pretty much figured it out myself along the way. Recently started watching KZbin videos on beards and have learned a lot from DanC. Now I have to break some bad habits and start some good ones. Thanks Dan.

Excellent video. I remember when I started growing my beard, I wanted to look like yours or Greg Brezinski's. I thought it would end up being a mess without any style. Low and behold, it surprisingly looks like yours! It honestly gave me a whole new sense of pride. I have the style and now I'm going for length. Thanks for the helpful content Dan. ✌

Thanks for the video it helps me out a lot. Do you recommend Viking beard wash and conditioner? I have been using regular shampoo and conditioner for my beard and I think I need to stop. Or which one do you recommend?
@DanCBearded5 жыл бұрын
I would recommend against head hair shampoo and conditioner, just because the hairs and skin are so different. There are a tons of good ones I would recommend. Shoot me a message on IG or email and I give more specific recommendations

This is an incredibly AWESOME video!! As for the wax, would a heavy hold balm work??

Absolutely! If it's a stiff hold balm like luxurious, you will be fine

My wave is on the jaw line right next to my chin only on the left side. I am new to the long beard look. I currently have a short to medium length beard. In order to hide the wave, i have to pull the bottom of the beard to the front toward the chin (a kind of beard come over if you will). I am not sure how to correct it. I have used the round brush with blow dryer method, with oil and beard balm. That does not seems to work. I also have a "beard" straightener that i use. Again works ok, but still need that beard come over. I will look into the beard wax, and beard butter. Maybe a more softer, healthier beard with a wax will work better. Thank you for your videos, they have helped a lot.

I curl in towards my face at the ends, that gets rid of the end curls and looks neater. However it creates the wave he talks about, so I would try both

Awesome! Now I know I’m not the only one obsessing about my side cheek waves. Will definitely incorporate some of your tricks into my routine. One thing I struggle with is restraining myself from stroking (playing with) my beard during the day which increases chances of waves...any tricks for that besides willpower? Thanks!
@DanCBearded5 жыл бұрын
Put hot sauce in your beard? Haha just kidding, I have nothing on that one brotha. Just have to develop the habit of keeping off. Part of you needs to enjoy that beard though!

Hi Dan. I'm going deeper through all your videos... Takes time to see all of them lol This subject you talked about is something very important. I have salt and pepper beard hair) I tried your tips. But I can't get rid of these bloody waves.... I feel desperate 😞 But all you've said is true. So maybe if you have any other tips to try to get rid of them would be appreciated... 🙏🏼

I do have the jaw line wave. It doesn’t bother me too much but when I do want the flow to look tight I use my heated brush start at the middle of my chin and brush straight back. I then do my usual grooming and seven potions beard wax woodland harmony is my go to.

Hi Dan, it's the kind of video I'm searching for long time. Thanks bro. I have one question, as you said you like to do in the morning but in my case I have to offer my prayers five time a day and everytime I need to wash my face and beard, so how can I tackle this. Do I need to repeat all those steps everytime and used that beard wax everytime. Please suggest 🙏

Love seven potions beard wax. As far as the question goes, I’ll get a slight wave in the mornings just from sleeping on my side, and usually fix them the way you described here minus the hair dryer.
