Thank you for all that. I've been watching a few of your videos as I'm trying to sort out just over 72,000 photos accumulated over decades, with many, many duplicates. At 12m 15s you show settings for marked for deletion photos, so smaller photos without metadata I get must be the duplicates to remove. However, item 4 should surely be set to marking and then removing later pics so that you are more likely to retain the originals as you said elsewhere in the video. On my Mac, I'm going to continue using PhotoSweeper, although hopefully in a better way, following your training. The financial cost of the others is too prohibitive, even with the generous discount that you mentioned. So, thank you Mollie for your informative and helpful videos about organising and storing photos. I appreciate your help. :)

Hi Ian - Thank you so much for watching. You are CORRECT and I just realized this yesterday when working with someone on their photo organization. You want to mark photos with newer dates for deletion! I actually prefer using PhotoSweeper as I use Mac computers as well. Cheers! Mollie

The nastiest issue I have is that I scanned 40 years worth of old school non-digital pictures and now I want to sort them by date to match the way all my digital photos are organized. The film pictures all have EXIF dates of when I scanned them, which is no help since they were all scanned over a two week period. The minor additional issue is that I have both the "original" scanned image (converted to JPEG with the least compression available in the scanner software) and also a downloaded version from Google photos (where I had uploaded the scanned photos) which more aggressively compressed. The file sizes differ hugely ... scanned "original" at 5.9 MB, Google version 576 KB. Visually very close, but not identical.

Hi there - that is a challenging issue. You can change the dates of the scanned photos with Windows File Explorer or Adobe Bridge or other programs out there. It is nice to have them sorted into decade/year folders instead of all in one scanned photos folder. Here's a video that might help. . . kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJu3k5-rqZeqf7Msi=PIyH3pVU5UCyrAD6 The other issue should be resolved with the duplicate finding program. Its frustrating the solutions we use can create more problems then we ever expected! Good luck! Cheers! Mollie

You recommended an app called photo sweeper to delete pictures on your Mac. But I couldn’t find it in the App Store.

Hi Kathleen - Are you looking in the App Store on your Mac? It is not an app for iPhone. I just checked on my Mac and hoping you can find it. It's called PhotoSweeper. Thank you so much for watching! Cheers, Mollie

Watching this has been very helpful. With the demonstration you showed, I am wondering what happened to the folder that the deleted photos had been in. Are you left with an empty folder on your computer? And would it be important to delete that folder after using the duplication program?
@Pixologie2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy… you are correct if all the photos in that folder were duplicates and deleted. Sometimes there will be pictures left and you’ll want to consolidate them to another folder and then once the folder is empty, you would delete it. Hope that helps! Cheers! Mollie

Hi Mollie. I don't know if you're still responding to questions about this video, but I'm wondering about the "small groups" tip. You recommend searching for duplicates in small groups instead of all the photos at once. But what if there are duplicates in more than one of the groups you search?
@Pixologie Жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff - I recommend small groups so that the results are manageable to look through. You can add as many groups (which I think you mean "folders") as you like. I'm just not exactly sure what you mean by having duplicates in more than one groups. Then you would definitely want to put both of those groups into your duplicate search. Hoping this helps?? Cheers! Mollie

Thanks for the reply Mollie. It's my wife's pictures that I want to organize and de-dupe. She's got a few thousand in Google Photos (almost 5gb) and the vast majority are not in albums or otherwise organized. But I know she has a lot of duplicates because in the process of changing computers over the years, a great many pictures from Tonga (when her daughter was in the Peace Corps) got transferred more than once. So maybe your recommendation doesn't apply when there are only 5gigs to check. I realize that's not a lot to photographers and social media folks.

Around how many pictures is a small batch?
@Pixologie9 ай бұрын
Hi there… I’d say under 500 photos… but you could try more and see how it goes… I just like to give people a guideline. You can run the duplicate finder as much as you like, and not delete anything. You’ll see how many duplicates you’re working with, and that might tell you to scale down which folders are running the duplicate finder on. Cheers! Mollie

I downloaded and paid for Duplicate Photos Fixer Pro. Even when I have it on the lowest similarity settings, there are so many duplicates that it doesn't see. I contacted the company, but they never responded. Some are exact matches with the same file name and it doesn't mark them.

That is so frustrating! I am sorry you are experiencing this but it is not uncommon to have troubles… I have found their support to help, but it did take a couple days for us to schedule a screen session. Do you have your batches in small groups for comparison? Or are you scanning a lot at once? On some occasions I have literally had to have two folders open and eyeball it as well as run the duplicate finder. What years are these pictures that you are working with? Another problem that I had was cropping pictures back in the late 2000s when digital formats 4 x 5.3 came out I had cropped the original digital pictures to be four by sixes and the duplicate finder cannot recognize these either.

I have had clients receive refunds when requested and you do you want to be sure that you will not be charged the annual fee in a year unless we figure this out and you’re happy.

Any non subscription based de dupers for Windows out there. I pay for software all the time, but I don't see the value of a subscription in this space.
@Pixologie2 жыл бұрын
Hi there SCI4AII - If you use Mac, then PhotoSweeper is a one time purchase through the Apple App Store on your Mac. As for PC, unfortunately, I don't know of one that is not subscription based. Mylio now has a duplicate finding feature in its program - but that program is subscription based as well. I figure that a duplicate finder is most important when initially organizing all the old digital photos. Usually, my clients can cancel it before the year is up. I wish I could be of more help! Cheers! Mollie

Why IS IT that 90% of the people who post videos ALWAYS tell us about their life story, the weather, and anything and everything BUT actually GETTING TO THE FRIGGING POINT! THINK... ABOUT THAT! WE... tune in for the SOLE PURPOSE of WANTING TO KNOW HOW to RESOLVE a PROBLEM! If you cannot provide us with THAT KIND of an "ANSWER" then PLEASE, do NOT post any videos. THE "SOLUTION" to a "PROBLEM" is (ALL) we want the hear about. NOT, anything ELSE! PLEASE and THANK YOU!

Hi Norm… sorry late sorry this video wasn’t helpful. I continue to work on improving videos. What specifically is your problem? Are you looking for how to use a certain duplicate finder program? And what kind of computer do you use? Cheers! Mollie
