I watched technology go from using the pc to store your stuff, to using the cloud. In my opinion, the cloud is NOT where you want your stuff...only as a option not the only place. Too many people I run into have filled up their devices with pictures, videos or music and when that device fails..well needless to say, they lose everything. I make it and always have made it a point to copy or nove all my personal data from my phone and onto an external backup as well as the internal work drive.

@Pixologie3 күн бұрын
Hi Threerose - On your computer, AAE files are useless. They contain the edits you made on your iPhone and the edits are only viewable on your Phone or on a Mac computer in the Photos App. They cannot be easily recombined with your original photo on a PC or outside of the Apple environment. Hoping this helps. Cheers! Mollie

I'm with you on using YYYY-MM-DD Description for folders 👍 I've been using YYYY-MM-DD since I started digital photography in the early 2000 but only recently started adding a description so I have a lot of folders to go back and add descriptions too 😮 Do you have any suggestions for organising folders that have jpg and raw files in them (I regularly shoot jpg and raw with my camera but the folders get messy, especially when I start to save post processed images back into the folder)?
@Pixologie3 күн бұрын
Hi Arrow - Thanks for watching. As for RAW photos, I don't work with them at all. When it comes up with my clients, I consider the final JPGs the photos to keep since some programs won't work with RAW photos. If you feel strongly about keeping the RAW photos, then maybe in a separate folder for Original Raw Photos? For preserving for the future, most find the JPG (if sized appropriately) to be adequate to save.) Not sure if that helps! Cheers! Mollie

Hi Richard - Two ways. . . 1. Here at this point: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXich5ewh5yemKMsi=jrhozKvwSE7FnWf4&t=123, I explain where to save the photos in a folder. When you choose the folder, click the thumb drive which should show up on the left side. Then, the scanner will scan the files to your thumb drive. 2. Copy the folder to the thumb drive. (if you are using File Explorer, open the file icons and copy the folder to your thumb drive.) I use Photoshop 10 on a WIndows 10 computer, and only for organizing. PS10 will NOT work on my new Windows 11 computer - it crashes the computer! I have copied all my old photos to new computer. Now I need a program to taccess my already self-categorized photos as well as new photos to be added to new computer. I have downloaded free Adobe Bridge, but I don't think it can access already categorized photos . Help! Thanks.
@Pixologie11 күн бұрын
Hi Ann - I'm sorry I've never used Photoshop 10 for organizing. . . and I'm not sure what you mean by self-categorizing photos. If you applied a category to each of your photos in Photoshop, then I'm betting those categories are only visible in the program on the old computer. We do use Bridge here but I only see Collections and Keywords among the other program features. I teach to organize in folders for this reason - when a computer changes or software updates, people often lose a lot of their work and it's so frustrating. What I've seen work - is to export photos out of a program in batches that make sense to you. I usually exported by year but some people export by tags or person. Can you export your photos by your categories into folders that can then be usable for you? Hoping this helps a tiny bit! Cheers! Mollie

Hi there… your iPhone photos (if iCloud Photos is turned on) are synced with iCloud. If you delete on your phone, your photos will automatically be deleted in iCloud. The photos will be held in the Recently Deleted for 30 days and then are deleted permanently.

i have 13,000 photos and trying to move to laptop. It is very nerve wracking since the time to transfer is insane as one might expect, but what is really worrisome is that i never trust that the transfer form the iphone to pc will actuallly transfer all photos. it is nearly impossible to verify this quickly since apple puts photos in those monthly folders at download. I was thinking of getting an iexpand flash drive to move pictures from phone to that first. not sure if that would be better. woe is me. thanks for the video.
@Pixologie15 күн бұрын
Hi there… that’s a true problem… copying all of the photos at once is problematic. Sometimes the transfer gets interrupted and you truly would have to start over because you don’t know what has copied over and what hasn’t. I don’t recommend it but some people do use dropbox and or OneDrive to sync a copy to a computer. I prefer to just copy year by year with the folders.

Hi Java - sorry for the delay in reply. . . been on Christmas vacation! I subscribe to extra storage in iCloud, Google Photos (Google Storage) and Onedrive. Onedrive has been, by far, my favorite for several reasons. 1) Microsoft 365 subscription gives me access to common office apps PLUS up to 5TB storage (1TB per family member) for $9.99/mo. 2) I can configure Onedrive to back up photos from my iPhone and automatically organize them into a Year\Month folder organization. So when I'm looking at photos in Onedrive I can either use the Gallery view showing all the photos together sorted by date OR I can go to My Files and see my camera roll neatly organized by Year\Month. 3) That same structure syncs to my PC or MAC in the same folder structure, Year\Month. 4) Finally, deleting photos on my PC does not delete them on Onedrive adding a level of protection for my backup on Onedrive. Anyhow, a lot of good things with Onedrive that I didn't hear talked about here. Been using it for years and it's been rock solid for me!

That's a nice scanner, though I've always preferred a lid style scanner. With a self-fed scanner like your Epson, there is greater potential for jams, because the actual photo is moving through a conveyor system. Pretty cool how you can adjust for different size photos, or Polaroid thickness. Also the protective sheet for fragile photos for newspaper clippings

Seeing all the great comments on this video I now feel like the village idiot. I am new to an iPhone so things have been a struggle. You have a newer video on transferring pictures from am iPhone to a laptop. I still cant get it. From an earlier video I went to Photos and clicked on Search and did a test using several "to be deleted photos" to see if I could get them to my laptop. It took awhile but i did it somehow. Getting brave I did a search people and dogs, deleting several irrelevant photos. I can't figure how to get these to my laptop. I need to clear up a lot of storage on my phone as I cant upgrade to the latest ios update. I also thought I heard you say in a newer video that iCloud storage only sends thumbnails back to the phone but maintains the originals. Is this correct? iCloud storage is relatively limited. I think your videos are the best I've seen but when you are not a tech type and old to boot, well. I would die if I did something wrong and lost photos of my dogs. HELP. There's no teenage tech types for hire around here. :)

It can be a lot to get your head around at first, but once navigated and you fully understand it all, saves you hours upon hours of work in the long run.
