I loved this, thank you! I've been wanting to organise my photos for quite some time now but have dreaded having to learn yet another complicated application to do so. This one looks really quite intuitive, so I will definitely give it a go. And by the way, I thought you explained all this really well. Cheers!

Hello I'm looking to transfer only the pictures that haven't been previously uploaded. When I try to import the program imports every picture This isn't ideal because I have about 14000 pictures and it takes unnecessary long time. Any help? Thanks

Thank you for you honest review, I feel like this product is really unnecessary, and predatory towards older people who are less tech savvy. You could get a USB thumbdrive for your phone that's smaller, and more stylish, or just hook your phone directly to your computer, then to a either a thumb drive, or a flash card. They charge A LOT for what is essentially: A thumbdrive, an adapter, and a dodgy piece of crapper-ware software.

I take photos of birds with a Nikon. I process them and the best I put into the icloud photos on my pc. I give each photo a name that includes the bird species and date, say 'Robin 24 June 2024.jpg' . My photos app has the name of the bird in the filename but you cannot search for that. You put into photos app search say Robin but it cannot find the Robin photos. It seems the simplest thing in the world to have a system search file names but the iphone nor ipad can do it. No mention of that in ios 18.

Hi Peter - That would be extremely frustrating. . . you put the work into naming the photos and then can't search for them on your phone. Its why I just use the Apple/iCloud/iPhone syncing only for a backup. I save my photos in regular folders on my computer and then upload to Forever. Seems like Apple could do better all the time. (And I'm a Mac user on top of it!!) Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! Mollie

DON'T GET THIS APP AS IT IS GARBAGE !! Notice it is only rated great by SPONSORED VIDEOS !! There is a reason for this trust me ! KZbinrs for good or bad will always tell you they're non biased while getting money !! Yeah sure ! I believe you !! I fell for this garbage and let me tell you my experience in a little over a year of their so called "app". Firstly there were TONS OF BUGS !! And I do mean TONS where the app was barely usable at times. Secondly their support is GARBAGE as they will look for excuses and ALWAYS BLAME YOU-It's never their garbage software !! Thirdly-and this is my SURE FIRE way to KNOW a company are SCAMMERS !! Try cancelling--Good luck to you as I have done everything from sending emails to responding on their site and yet here we are nearly 2 months after my subscription RAN OUT and THEY'RE STILL TRYING TO CHARGE MY CARD !!! This is the work of a scammer unethical company FOR SURE !!! I had to cancel my card just to avoid being charged by them !!!. Also funny that when you send them emails no matter what address you send it to when they know you're trying to cancel they will respond saying "This email is not monitored". Then how did you know I sent you one ??? Truly if an email is not monitored it will bounce back and let you know which is NOT the case with THESE SCAMMERS !!! Save your money and do what I did and download the FREE app XNVIEWMP which is both BETTER and FREE. It also does contact sheets awesomely which mylio sucks at (Among other things). Honestly this app was the WORST MONEY I'VE EVER SPENT ON SOFTWARE !!! Learn from my mistake and DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE !!!

Loving your videos, but this one seems really out of touch. A new computer just for photos to get started? That is not necessary and I would argue a 600 dollar printer is not needed to get started either. People can get started with what they have, and maybe some photo boxes that are under $50 dollars. Those of us that dont have an extra 5k dollars sitting around for a good laptop, printer, forever storage, or whatever can still get a ling ways on your system organizing the print pictures in our show boxes or photo boxes we already have, and use our 5 year old laptop to start organizing the digital ones. I'm more likely to order archival boxes and an external harddrive before I order a new computer and a printer. Both for less than $300 dollars. Will it take me awhile if I have to use the scanner at the library, you bet, but by that point Ill likely see if I can borrow a home one from the library of things at our home library or buy a bit slower one that isn't a months rent. I think your system is great, but I really worry about people hearing this and not even getting started.

Is there a reason to not just use the tree at the left when you are moving pictures and folders around instead of a second window?
@Pixologie
@Pixologie 10 күн бұрын
Hi there - Certainly you can use the folder tree in the navigation pane… however I often am comparing things from one folder to the other, and like to have the visual of two folders open. Also, occasionally the pictures can be dropped in the wrong folder that way, but control Z will undo it. As long as you have a system that works for you, that’s the important thing. Cheers! Mollie

HI there - I do try to segment the categories into manageable batches. In terms of the same process, yes, I believe so. I do it chronologically -> years -> months and if we have a big event/trip I put them in a separate folder within the year. I have a question how to deal with the photos when you don't know the exact year? You just put them in "I believe this is this decade"?

@Pixologie 10 күн бұрын
Hi there - Yep - we call it Estimated 1980s or Estimated 1981, etc. Sometimes we just don't know and then we might use a "Undated" or "Unknown Date" to name a batch. Hope this helps! Cheers! Mollie

Interesting list but i have some concerns. 1) terms of service - where are some of these applications storing your data and what rights are you giving them by default to view and use your images; 2) long term compartability and support--Picassa is a good example. You invest a great deal of time organizing a library and suddenly the application is abandoned or replaced; 3) Interoperability and compatability with other formats or applications--this is really important when building a catalog. Lets say that you have invested a ton of time over many years adding keywords and descriptive metadata to your image database and then for one reason or another you want to migrate your library to another service. Can any other application seemlessly import all that data with your photos, or will all that work be lost?; 4) Is anyone else even going to want this material? While it may be important to us, unless it is well organized, easy to access, and requires no special maintenance or cost, it may wind up being as much of a burden and a blessing to others. Anyway, a few concerns worth considering.
@Pixologie
@Pixologie 10 күн бұрын
Hi Yukon Chris - All good concerns. It is why my first go to for saving photos is in folders on my computer. Many people have lost TONS of work due to these reasons. I am most comfortable with using Forever Permanent Storage for a variety of factors but this is knowing I have my full family photos in folders on my computer. I also believe that people currently will never be as enthusiastic about what you have done to preserve family photos and history as we'd like. You have to do this because you enjoy and are interested in it all for yourself first. Then, sometime, someday, truly someone will be interested and curious about the old family photo and video collection. I really appreciate your thoughts! Thank you so much for watching! Cheers! I have garden progress/journal photos. I am currently pasting into google sheets spreadsheet with my notes, but I don't know if that is going to break once the pictures are outside of my phone or google drive? I also have pictures noting state of things like bruising on my broken foot or a patch of eczema to see changes over time as I adjust supplements or heal in the case of the foot that so far I just scroll back through, but not sure of a good way to store and access those? Do you just break down your folders by year, then category, do family in 1 folder, scrapbooking friends in 1 folder, and olympics in 1 folder? Or do you kick everything outside of family to a completely different location?
@Pixologie
@Pixologie 12 күн бұрын
HI again - I would definitely keep your garden photos in a folder on their own . . . but I teach to save them on your computer. If you are pasting actual photos into your Google Sheets that should be fine - but if it is just a link previewing the photo that will be a problem if you take the photo out of Google. I have a folder "Photos for Information" and I keep a Health Photos folder in there with various events through the years. My scrapbooking friends folder is separate from my family photos. I keep folders on my computer and then upload the folder structure to Forever Permanent Storage. Hoping this helps! Cheers! Mollie

I used to have a desktop computer that had slideshow as the screensaver. My kids and I loved watching the screensaver and I would tell them about the pictures. Hoping to get things organized and have at least 1 electronic photo frame that we can watch and discuss who is in there and what was going on. I started consolidating SD cards and thumb drives first, and got started on it, but there were barely any of my daughter or my Mom, and a lot of the ones with my Dad were older because they were from his funeral. I would love to have them all digitized, and the physical copies stored better (currently in several totes, trunks, and at least 1 cardboard box that our cat likes to chew on). I guess it boils down to the following: 1. Consolidate and digitize photo and video storage to 1 place and then also have at least 1 backup. 2. Have the physical pictures stored in an organized way and if there are stories about them, have notes explaining what was going on as well as who is in the pictures (I would like both physical and digital copies noted if possible). 3. Have systems in place to backup and add physical, digital etc on a regular basis so that there aren't huge quantities to be wondered about when I'm gone or lost in the event of a disaster like fire, stolen or broken phone, or flood. 4. After I am working through mine, I would like the viewing/processing of new photos to become a family activity so my kids get in the habit and maybe we can work through the backlog Grandma had from the different estates and incorporate those photos and stories into the various genealogy records for the family trees and also have them in a format that can be shared with other family members.

I do a lot of family history so have photos that were taken decades or centuries ago but scanned, usually more than once as tech improved, on various dates so chronological doesn’t work. Often the date the image was taken isn’t known either. I also have thousands of scanned or downloaded documents. It’s a constant problem of how to organise - which has changed over the decades as computers improve and I keep running out of storage - it’s never enough, even though my last hard drive is 5 terabytes. Instead of organising by date, I use the name of the image to let the computer sort things initially then have a sub folder for each family group. The name starts with the family name in capitals, then the first names of the individuals, capitals for direct ancestors, lower case for others, with birth date for people with same name (eg 5 generations of John Sutton’s plus cousins who used the same naming patterns) or just ‘family’ for groups, the rest of the name depend on what info is available preferably event next, then date, place etc and importantly, source if known. So much easier now, when names and documents can be almost infinite, to back in the early days when names were a max of 6 letters and a document would only hold one chapter of a book. Of course any other, especially less time consuming, suggestions would be VERY welcome. Family hard copy photos are sorted by individual child and their family if it’s just one person so they can be handed over to the next generation when I’m gone. The rest is a mess of chronological, events and thousands of scanned slides my father took going back almost a century. Unfortunately the slides are deteriorating faster than the prints. I don’t think I have enough life left to ever get it all sorted!

Gigi - when you connect your phone to your computer, you should see a message on your phone something like "Trust this computer?" and you will need to click Yes so that your folders will be viewable like in the video. Can you try that again? In some ways, I think with the newest updates to iPhone, it is easier to get photos copied to your computer in dated folders than with Android. Is there a way to change all the HEIC files to JPG? I just found out about the heic today. Is this going to be an issue or should I just keep them as is. I need to clean up my phone because it is full and I want to add them to a Jamaica folder on FB albums.

Hi again - You can use XNView to convert HEIC Files if you want. Currently some websites won't upload HEIC files for photo book creation or online storage. If you are going to simply keep them on your computer, then HEIC is fine. We recommend using Forever Permanent Storage which currently does not allow for HEIC files to be uploaded. Here's a video that includes dealing with HEIC files: kzbin.infoAvayodJli5g?si=u2FJ4pU_9bbLf7FV Cheers! Mollie

You can make a file folder on your phone under your files and then copy each one of the HEIC photos over into that folder. By doing that the photo will now become a JPEG. Keep in mind that you have to do it one photo at a time. I tried grouping a bunch to transfer and it didn’t work. I don’t know why Apple has to be so difficult.

Hi there - The photo sticks usually allow you to access individual files but it can be tricky to find them. And, we've heard instances were people cannot actually open the files on the photo stick. Thanks for watching! Cheers! Mollie

Hi Mollie, I've been away from this for about a year when you were all hot and bothered about Forever. Have you switched favourites or do you see this as just an alternative? Also since I want to see my photos on my TV, does Mylio have an app for smart TV's. Dave.🙂

Hi Dave! Forever and Mylio are really two different solutions in my mind. Mylio is for computer organization and management of your photos and editing. It has way more functionality than Forever does. However, you have to export the photos for anyone to view them. With Forever, you are working online and your photos/videos/documents can be viewed and shared with your family as well as passed onto future generations. I have clients who use both. If you don't work with your photos often, I would not recommend Mylio. Hoping this helps!! Cheers! Mollie
