The best way is to use a Remington 12 gauge, it doesn't matter if it's a single barrel, double barrel, pump or automatic, I use a double barrel and it works great, I've never had one to come back after the left barrel gets him.
@NittyGritty4205 жыл бұрын
You can’t bait them.. I catch em all the time and the only thing that works is to figure out where they frequent and to funnel them into the trap. If you do bait your trap your more likely to catch a raccoon or a possum.

Quick question. Will the castrol oil hurt my plants ?
@pestcemetery11 жыл бұрын
Smell is a powerful thing and often times it can lure critters in even if it's not something generally eat. Besides, Armadillos DO eat worms, maggots, grubs etc. Guess which one is often found in rotting fruit.....

James Steendam Thanks, but I use 00 buckshot at pretty close range. I find them easier to kill with this as they try to run. I tried to trap them but that never worked.

@gbuster1299 жыл бұрын
Rick Skiles I shot my last one about 11:00 at night. Don't know if that will work in your area. I now have a Jack Russell and the armadillos have left my place. Jacks are diggers. Don't know if the smell of the Jack or his digging got rid of them, but they are no problem now.

Thanks so much! Absolutely didn't know that! I have used castor oil to control "moles" (very effectively, i might add), but never thought of it for this critter. "Tomcat", makes a 100% castor oil spray, that you attach to your hose, that is so easy and cheap to use. Well, time for another castor oil treatment!

One website recommends putting worms in a mesh stocking as bait. The worm scent is released, since the stocking acts as vents. Since they don't eat fruit, I don't see where this maks sense. Why would they check out a fruit scent if they don't eat fruit. Worms and grubs are what they love. Of course I think the worms should be in some loose moist soil to keep the worms from dying from drying out.

Armadillos are not an endangered species,,, in fact they are multiplying and extending their range from Argentina all the way up to Omaha, Nebraska, and from Virginia to New Mexico (east-west within the USA).

I'm tender hearted toward animals, but armadillos dig up your yard and can be destructive to foundations, etc. Also it is possible for them to carry leprosy. I live in Georgia and am trying to make one leave my yard. They are not native to Georgia, are spreading, and are considered a pest here. Many get killed on roads. I hope it leaves as it's doing a LOT of digging in my lawn and I'm afraid it will go under my house. I don't want it killed but idk what to do.

We live in the country & in a mobile home. They seem to think that they should live under our home! We have tried to block where they come in under the landscaping timbers, but they just dig under the timber in a different spot. The only way for us to rid them is to shoot them. We have 2 acres of yard & the rest is our fields surrounding it. So we have 18.5 total acreage. Will they not come in the yard if we only treat the 2 acres? Can we just buy grubs & put it on them in a tray or something?
@GeneralDutch11 жыл бұрын

I finely learn how to catch a Armadillo with out bait! I think they do go by smell, if they can smell earth worms under ground. Make since to me.. OK Get a animal trap size of a racoon or a rabbit trap. Fine a burrow, Set the trap Over the Burrow, they will kept coming back to the burrow. Get some boards or blocks to make a V at the door, They will follow a house foundation or the board to the trap and go inside as the door close on them. To Me there too cute to kill them unless i ate it. Every thing on Earth has a purpose and plays a roll on Earth! So i turn them loose on pipelines or oil field locations. Any one ate Armadillo meat yet? or have a recipe for it? I heard they taste just like pork

They are super cute and nice but you don’t want them around your house they burrow and can cause damage to the foundation of your house. And that’s just as bad as stealing your car or running up your credit cards. I leave the raccoons and possums in my yard alone but when I trap armadillos I always relocate them.

Send me your telephone number and the next time I have to mow my grass I'll call you and you can come fill all these holes in my yard, I start mowing early.
@SeaJay_Oceans2 жыл бұрын
@@hubertwhite3017 Well, you have to ask yourself WHY are their holes in your yard ? Do you have an insect infestation ? Do you have a grub or worm infestation ? Armadillos go to where the food is - if you don't have a fence to keep random critters out of your yard, it's a buffet table. We used milky spore to touch up the lawn. It doesn't harm the grass, but helps prevent infestation of too many grubs. If you have fruit trees, you wil have to be busy picking up any rotting fruits, which will bring bugs, which will bring critters that eat bugs, which can bring birds of prey that eat small critters. Ah... the great circle of life ! If you don't enjoy it, I would recommend moving to a 9th floor Condominium. No lawn to mow, little noise from the street below...
