They've already had their time in the limelight, the bands been split up but their still in touch and planning on making more songs. Get scared has gotten its recognition over the years and it still does. their not at all underrated, they've had such a long run it feels nostalgic to just listen to their songs again and many still remember. Even though there hasn't been a song for the past years its just a reminder that not everything can last forever and its important to leave a mark that we did something to touch peoples hearts and get scared definitely left a mark

Adored the whole album, but this sticks out as, far and away, the best song from Demons imo. We rarely see Get Scared go full melancholic. The majority of the time, there's a ton of fury in the lyrics or at least a hidden grit or anger in their more emotional songs, but not this one. It really is just outstanding how well this was pulled off and how it stands as not just one of the album's standout songs, but one of the band's most unique songs

Closest they've ever gotten to a spiritual successor to Stumbing In Your Footsteps honestly. It was kind of disappointing how they dealt with the finale of this album. In the beginning you've got Nick talking about how he's feeling almost buried alive by his drug problems and personal demons that he can't let go of or bring himself to face (Buried Alive) and destroys his body with drugs in Suffer, only to probably try facing his drug problem but can't relate to the positive attitude others have, not wanting to be told he's alright or has a chance to become a better person (Addict) He subsequently goes through withdrawal in Under My Skin, and is overwhelmed by his demons, nearly to the point of insanity in Demons. The "Devil" taunts him with "lies and suicide", which could be a metaphor for drugs, since they will only lead to his inevitable suicide, but he's selling it to Nick as a way to deal with his pain. However he takes a stand and refuses to run or hide, and probably becomes clean for a while. However, he was using the drugs as a crutch to deal with pre-existing trauma or pain, but nobody will admit that there's something wrong with him below the surface, wanting to blame the drugs for everything. He's plagued by a constant feeling of anxiety that he could be right, that there's more to this than just the drugs (though he's also taking multiple prescriptions that offset each other and interact badly, likely making him worse) "Take A Bow" seems to be him subtly hinting at his past trauma, possibly relating to a father figure as he sings "You're still a father to me" but also talks about how he was abandoned and "thrown to the wolves", though he's able to finally forgive what was done to him, though he won't forget all the regret. But this seems to push him over the edge and he relapses, becoming bitter and hateful towards himself, spitting how much he fucking hates falling back into the same old shit, asking why he even bothers trying to get better when all he does is fail time and time again (Relax, Relapse) He doesn't even show remorse and won't cry or apologise because he doesn't think he has a chance of redemption anymore. But in "Second Guessing" he finally makes one last attempt to confront his trauma, likely wanting to just end his life after "Relax, Relapse" but second guessing whether or not he could have a brighter future if he found the strength and courage to finally put his demons to sleep. I'd usually expect a couple extra songs after this to wrap up the narrative and either have him fail and die, or imply that he's finally moving towards a brighter future and is leaving his past behind, but instead we just get "RIP" where he vents his frustration about false prophets preaching "the same old shit" as he refuses to bow to anyone. The closest interpretation I can find is possibly that he sought faith in God to help him on his journey against his drug addiction, but was disgusted by the posturing and moral grandstanding of the preachers he saw, and felt it didn't help anyone in his position, but then this should have come before Demons or The Devil's In The Details, since it makes him giving in to the Devil but second guessing himself and taking a stand against both false prophets and the Devil's lies fit better into the narrative. Just kind of squandered potential with an album that has such a great underlying narrative and some incredible songs

Just wanted to post a reply to your comment because I thought it was an excellent analysis of the story behind the album. However, I would disagree that RIP is a bad closer. While it’s definitely not the best, it is a high-energy send off for what was the otherwise slower, more emotional second half of the album. Secondly, although it doesn’t continue the “story” of the album, I think it provides some closure for the religious lyrical motifs (The Devil, thoughts on dying, sinning, etc.) that appear throughout the album, as well as recaps the themes present in the album. For this, I would offer a different interpretation of the last two tracks. “Second Guessing” is not an actual second attempt at facing his past traumas, but an introspection on all that came before. His “second guessing” of his ways is the only thing keeping him alive. Although he thinks he will never change, the truth is that the possibility of him changing is what keeps him going. He’s still “rotting inside” and “severing his ties” as shown in “Relax, Relapse”, but he still wants “someone” to save him. He says they shouldn’t believe a word he says (because he pretended to be alright but he actually still craves the ways he’s been. It could also reference his conflicting feelings about wanting to ween himself off addiction while also craving his old ways that appears in other songs of the album but that may be a stretch). He also says that “without the need of agony it’s bringing out the worst in my own faith” which I’m not 100% sure what it means but it could mean that since he doesn’t need the pain of trauma/addiction his faith is becoming worse, or maybe it could mean that if he’s still desiring his old ways without feeling agony, he’s losing his faith in changing for the better. He also says that it “feels like someone’s testing me” (could this be God? Or the Devil?). In that sense, nothing has actually happened since “Relax, Relapse” in the story, he’s just wondering if he’ll ever be free of his bad ways/addiction. “RIP” doesn’t end the “story” but rather the themes. His longing for belief but rejection of religion is parallel to his longing for change but simultaneous rejection of it. The opening lyrics “Gone again in the undertow left to live with hate” could also reference his relapsing back into his old ways, as well as his disgust with the apathy/hatefulness of religious leaders. “Faced again with a taste of it still I’ll never change” is also turned into a lyric with double meaning, being about both religion and his own struggle with addiction. Looking at the closer with that in mind changed the way I saw it. It includes the themes of death, struggle through painful and pointless/endless pursuits, and uncertainty, all while providing closure for the religious lyrics found throughout the album. Im aware this all may be a reach, maybe they just wanted a single as the album closer and didn’t care about the rest, but I hope that covers why I think “RIP” isn’t that bad of a closer for Demons.
