I used to work in a university building that was the same way! Mel Brooks & company combined slapstick comedy, social commentary, and dark cold war humor to create one of the funniest shows on TV in its day. Don Adams performed brilliantly as the dim witted, accident prone secret agent, with Barbara Feldon equally talented as Adams' straight man, sidekick, and love interest. The show has remained relevant despite its age as the jokes are still funny and we're back in the cold war.

The irony being that Don Adams was apparently pretty damn tough in WW2. Joined the Marines, was a crack shot, fought at Guadalcanal, survived an infection that killed 90 percent of the people who caught it, and became a drill instructor after he recovered. Mel Brooks was no slouch either, serving as a US Army forward artillery observer and combat engineer during the last months of the war. In the latter role he helped find mines and boobytraps for later disarming.

I drove a Karmann Ghia for several years, proud of the Get Smart connection. VW tech in the era had lots of "gadgets" built into the car. The windshield sprayer worked from pressure coming off the spare. Setting the top was a matter of pulling it forwards from the back and latching at the door posts and could do in seconds. Many non-VW drivers had an impossible time putting that transmission into reverse - definitely had a secret agent sportscar look to it - fun to drive and handled really well great "sports car."

I loved this show when I was 14 in 1967 and beyond. I used imagine/day dream I was Maxwell, if I were entering a building and had to walk down a long hall, then through 2 sets of double doors to pass through, and then a small 4 person elevator, up to the floor where I had an appointment. Also at the time I was future planning what kind of car I would drive, when I was old enough. The VW Karmann Ghia, would have been my dream car. I was 17 when I finally went car hunting, and I did test drive a couple VW Beetles, and a really early imported Honda 600. The Honda 600, was a sub-compact. A very tiny 2 seater, which was dwarfed by any standard VW Beetle. In the end I found a (very groovy), 1970 Opel Kadett. That one came as a "fastback", and should not to be confused with the very sporty Opel GT, which resembled a pint-sized Corvette.

Don’t leave us hanging: what was the concept?
@charliemanthedog1073 жыл бұрын
@@HugoToledo Well, it's been a little while, and I apparently cannot find it in my notes. But basically, I think he was talking about the barriers to widespread adoption of agroforestry in the U.S... regulatory barriers, cultural beliefs, a system that favors commodity crops, lack of research funding, lack of public understanding... and so forth. Still though... agroforestry to me is a way to combine food, fiber, and even biofuel production with ecological stewardship. This is something that we need to thrive, and possibly, survive as a species. I'm all about it... ecological agriculture... a force that unites us. Bring us back to nature, and to each other. So yeah, agroecology. Figuring out how to do this on a large scale in our modern world, and confronting ourselves and the systems we've built as humankind... these are some of the challenges to realizing a bold and holistic, widespread agro-ecological system. Yet, what a goal to propose, to work toward, to guide us in our actions and our work. And those who have been practicing these more holistic and natural ways for centuries or millennia... the opportunity to learn from them, work with them, improving upon traditional ways while moving away from an input-heavy monoculture-based "industrial" system in the "modern" world. I'm all about this, yet to get there, or even to get this into the general consciousness of the public... challenges... But what a goal! Thanks for reading this. BTW great playlists... I subbed!

I cant believe that for season 3 they switched to a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. While that's a fine looking little sports car, it is still essentially a Bug with better styling. Hardly the vehicle for a secret agent. His original 1965 Sunbeam Tiger is a far superior car. It may not look as "stylish" as the Karmann Ghia but its high-performance V8 engine more than makes up for its basic styling.
