As an advance programmer, I came here to just see what the kit has to offer, but the way you teach and explain is so comforting in a word, I understood and digested everything you said and I wanted to know what you were talking about. Ik what you were going to teach, but I stayed because it was just so fun hearing you explain.

This is an awesome introduction and kit walk through. The reason Arduino programs are called sketches is because originally it, and Processing which the IDE is based on, were designed for artists to get started with electronics and programming.

This is wonderful, thank you! I had to purchase the kit for a show control class but we don't start up 'till next week (in a currently-unknown remote-learning-only situation) & I was super excited to get going. I had read through some of the guides but having someone actually explaining and showing you as your go is SUPER helpful.

Thank you so much for helping me get started with the kit ! It was really a moment of delight when I pushed the code through ( had to use a USB-C adapter as well since I'm on a new Mac) and seeing it actually work !

You are absolutely correct about the benefit of actually typing the code yourself and playing with it a bit, I had already programmed in an SOS message in Morse code before you suggested it so that made me chuckle. I'm just trying to get into electronics at the young age of 42 and like your teaching style so far.

Awesome! I'm about five episodes into the series so far. The next few are still "exploratory missions" covering the basics of some of the components. But as you gain experience with them, you can combine them in fun and interesting ways. For example, switches can be used with either LEDs or buzzers (or both), to make simple alarms to alert you when a door or drawer has been opened. Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the series. Thanks for watching! 👍

This was very useful. One comment I have, I used this in November of 2021, and the Arduino Genuino is no longer listed as one of the tools in the drop down. it is now named Arduino Uno, and it seems to work just fine. Great video, very easy to follow, I opened the guide and referenced that as you went. That was a great first experience in coding and electronics. Thank you! On to the next challenge!!

I had this video running on my main machine and the arduino stuff running on my 2nd machine, that way I can listen and watch and also get my hands on the programming and board without having to click back and forth between windows. I probably looked like I was watching tennis going from screen to screen. Thanks for doing this.

Interesting to hear the history of RAMPS. Especially since I got this kit off Black Friday for £25, buying it on a hunch and thinking about using it in a similar way to how 3D printers use them (though probably for something much smaller, like a pen printer (or drawing machine, as some call them) or a mini-CNC. I did not look specifically for 3D printer channels, I came across this video just looking for info on the kit itself. Funny how life works sometimes.

I am considering buying this kit so I would like to know the following; 1) Are the parts well-made and reliable? 2) Does it come with an ir led and ir sensor? 3) What types of resistors does it come with? Is there a full list of resistors that it comes with example, 100e, 10k, 330r etc.?
@BV3D
@BV3D 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I haven't had an issue with parts quality, but I haven't used every single component in the kit. It does come with an IR remote and an IR receiver, but not a discrete IR LED and a discrete IR sensor. The IR remote is like a small TV remote, with 21 buttons. The receiver is a small module you'd connect to the Uno and, with a code library, program actions to occur based on buttons pressed on the remote. There's not a full listing of resistors included with the kit, but I can tell you the values I received with mine: 10Ω, 100Ω, 220Ω, 330Ω, 1KΩ, 2KΩ, 5KΩ, 10KΩ, 100KΩ, and 1MΩ. I can't tell you the exact quantities of them, but I can tell you there are two or three times as many 220Ω resistors as any other kind in the kit. Looks like there's about 10 of each kind, and then maybe 20 or 30 of the 220Ω ones.

The term "sketch" is a leftover from the base language the Arduino is programmed in, an offshoot of Java called Processing. Processing was mainly developed for visual artists, for quick prototyping of their visuals. Also, many people seem to have missed this, but Arduino is a prototyping board. It's not really meant for production stuff, even though many use it for that. It has everything you need to quickly assemble a breadboard prototype to test things out. But as you may have noticed, the ROM chip of the Arduino is not soldered on. It sits nicely in an IC boot, so you can detach it. The idea is that you, when you are finished, make a proper integrated circuit board for all your components, program the chip with the final version of the software, pop it off the prototyping board and solder it onto the actual product. You can then buy a handful more chips and use the Arduino prototyping board as a programmer, or just replace the chip with an empty one and start the next project. The chip is far cheaper than the entire board, even though the board is quite cheap.

I do know now the uno is used for print boards ect. anywho, what i'm trying to say is this was so engaging and well executed I stayed and watched this entire video. I have to say you was made for guides and tutorials from your voice, pauses, explanations, and super easy to understand little tid bits that dum dums like me that have no idea about.
